I have just ordered 225 g of idaho 7 hops. Let me know how this turns out. Was thinking of going down the same route of a single hop pale ale after reading some reviews online. Using the hops for whirlpool and dry hop.

As the winter is drawing in I saw it only right to brew my faithful smoked porter.

not many pics as it was a busy day packaging and brewing but the highlights are 26L (3pts over shot) in the FS pitched with a fresh pack of London ale III.

it was a bit chilly out there so I improvised with my ski jacket.

one of my favs this beer and should be bang on in time for Xmas. 66465FDD-8435-434E-9BB0-DC3D18E2900D.jpeg 7CACDE46-3E87-4BED-A392-DBDA965571AA.jpeg 4B4DEA32-2384-42F8-9395-5893D25F9517.jpeg 5128F92A-40D7-4CCE-A441-6FC5079454AC.jpeg B960C26B-F04D-42AD-AB02-8D98DB7A8920.jpeg

Do you know what, I’m not sure. It is:

    Pilsner malt
Rauch malt (Oak smoked not peat smoked)
    Crystal 40
    Chocolate malt
    Black malt
    Flaked wheat

    IBU’s 60
    ABV : 5.6%

    London Ale III

Bramling cross and Pacific Jade hops

    Leon103 and Hopsteep like this.

What the reason for the wooden blocks, did you loose the metal part or are you trying to raise the malt pipe slightly more when sparging?

It’s to get more height. I have found that I can get good enough efficiency that I can have 27L at mash in and then sparge the malt pipe with 8L of water and get about 30L pre boil if I raise the malt pipe up on those 2 x 4 blocks. It means I can knock out 26ish into my fermenter up to about 1.060.

which is loads more than standard for the BM.

I also found replacing the mesh filters with the laser cut ones increased my efficiency by about 4% as well.

Interesting. When I have been trying to do bigger batches I usually just dilute it or sparge the last bit with the malt pipe suspended over a metal stockpot. Which BAC disks did you get, as they have made 3 different sizes over the years I think (although they have only sold 2 sizes at a time).

Things are just a bit to busy at the moment and I’m trying to get all my kegs filled for Xmas.

This gyle was a bit of an Xmas indulgement. I threw it all out the window for a Citra and 2019 Galaxy pale ale. yes I managed to get my hands on about 500g of this years fresh galaxy.

Had to deploy the ski jacket again as I nearly could brew as my hose pipes were frozen solid when I started.

The galaxy and citra smell off the scale AMAZING so I have night hopes for this. And it should also make the turnaround for Xmas.

I also packaged the smoked porter I brewed 2 weeks ago. And fresh out of the keg it is sooo good. I actually recall that this is the first time I have kegged this beer as all previous versions were bottled. Either way it’s bang on and it will be a winner for Xmas.
