Has anyone got any tips for a 70 shilling?
I've searched about a bit and found a recipe that looks good: pale malt and a touch of roasted barley, then really boil down the first runnings to give some caramelization, and add back to the rest.
I'll aim for 15 IBU and use up some fuggles I've got in the freezer, and I've got a pack of WYeast scottish ale yeast set aside too.
Will this get me an authentic heavy?

What type of OG were you shooting for?

I use about:
5.4kg of Golden Promise
57g roasted barley
~28 IBU

Take a gallon of the first runnings and boil down to syrup. Add that to the rest of the wort and boil. Pitch a large starter of 1728 and ferment low, around 15C.

That makes a really nice heavy.

Thanks for that. :thumb:
I think I'll go for something around 1.040 and keep the bitterness low for this one.
Just need to get a weizen brewday out the way first...
