Hi guys,

Looking for a recommendation for adding hops.
This is my 2nd brew of Coopers Australian pale ale, the first one turned out nice but lacked flavour. Just wondering what would be a decent hop to add depth and flavour.
I have some Saaz, would that be any good? I know Saaz is used for pilsners mainly but would it be ok with this pale ale?
Also how much should I add for a 20 litre volume?
Should I add the hops in for the last 4 days before bottling?

Thanks

Big question pws

Do you mean it lacked hop flavour?

If so that could be about how you bottled it, hops easily become effected by oxygen (oxidisation) which impairs hop flavour - try and bottle in a way that reduces exposure of the beer to oxygen

Saaz is fine in lager type beers - but does not have depth and flavour

In terms of other hops there are roughly 2000+ varieties from around the world

For a golden ale, and to suit my tastes I would be looking at something like East Kent Goldings or Challenger

Hops need to be added at the start of the boil and near the end so, they can do the job they need to

St Helens? My condolences - I happen to be travelling there tomorrow to my mother in law's - I am happy to bring some suitable hops if you like (for free) - but I would just be guessing what you might like

Thanks for these tips...this is a kit so no boiling involved....I just wondered about adding a handful of hop pellets around now as it's been in the FV for a week now....I have Challenger so will probably use those. Thanks for the offer of dropping off some hops but I think I am fine. Cheers! Enjoy St. Helens if you can!
