Hi,

Got my Youngs Belgian Saison kit on today and just before pitching the yeast I noticed a small tear in the packet

I hadnt noticed this before and I'm not sure how long it has been like this. 5 hours after pitching it is bubbling away nicely at 28 degrees, but could this cause problems? It did smell like strong cheese, but maybe yeast does stink a bit.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks Onefllewover. At least its a Saison so supposed to taste a bit funky, so I probably won't know either way :)

It should be fine but if not send that photo to Young's and say the beer was ruined.

Was the yeast pack stuck to the packaging?

Hi Clib, The yeast sachet was just loose in the box with the rest of the bits making up the kit.

Maybe let them know if you can be bothered. They'll at least send you another yeast i reckon. But wait for the beer to ferment and see what happens.
