After much deliberation decided to do a version of Jennings Cocker Hoop. I was recently in Keswick and had a few pints of Jennings original so thought what the heck I'll give it a go. Followed Wheelers recipe but changed the hops as that's what I had.

LT heating up as I speak and grains all weighed. Now time for a :drink:  Lets see if my end result comes in as predicted. :wha:

good luck , i see you batch sparge , i do too . Can't be bothered with fly sparge myself , too much time messing about trying to get amounts and flow correct , batch is so much easier i think .

An excellent beer Bob, one of my favourites, brewed it and other Jenning's recipes from the GW book regularly :thumb:

I use s-04 nice and firm, and gets going quick, Notty always looks like runny poo in the bottom... stays put tho

What yeast do you use Barry? I was thinking S04 as it gives a nice firm yeast deposit, but I also like Nottingham. I have both.

I've been using SO5 @ the moment, have used it mainly because I've been on lighter pale ales for summer :thumb:

Used both Notty and SO4 to great success as well :thumb:

I don't have one of those spinner things that don't spin anyway. So I just drop it in and drain out slowly. Seems to work. :wha:

I couldn't be bothered to make a spinner...so went and made a spiral one.

tried cocker hoop in a local pub in the summer, very nice, may try this one myself

It is now safely tucked up in the fermenter. 23lt at 1.042. Slightly below what I expected but it should be fine as a nice bitter. A few pics and be warned there is a bit of shiney in there. I haven't yet got all Damfoose's equipment sorted yet, but put the nice thermo pot mash tun into action. Worked a treat. Didn't even drop 1 degree. I just need to sort out my volumes and I' will be sorted.
