I made a Porter last October with the plan of using a single hop. On brew day it turned out I didn't have enough of the hop I planned to use so it was back to improv mode and time to use up the odds and ends of hops in the freezer. So I ended up with:
2700g Pale
420g Crystal
200g Roasted barley
150g Torrified wheat
and for the boil:
455g white sugar
36g Challenger @ 90 mins
12g EKG @10 mins
12g Citra @10 mins
With MJ liberty bell pitched at 20c
I ended up with the target 19ltrs coming out at 6.1%
It's been in the barrel since the end of October. I tried a few glasses in mid November and thought it was nice. I've just drawn a half pint of and it's bleedy awesome. Really full of body, big bold flavours, and without blowing my own too hard, way better than most of the porters I've had from Stainsbury's et el.
I'll be doing this one again soon, no changes either
