Is the sight tube itself just a bit of 15mm syphon tube by any chance?

Call me paranoid but I think I'd want a jubilee clip on either end if it is...

...also how stable is it when hot? Doesn't it go a bit floppy?

That'll be the rubbery bit that has been discarded in this build I would think - the metal bits will be fine for any temperature a brewer can throw at them.

I think it is 10mm. This is just HLT and the max temp is 80C. It is very tightly and on this one I don't need jubilee clip but i have them on my boiler. Same construction of sight glass and it is working perfectly.

If you want you could also spend a bit more and get a glass tube. I just did a quick search and that seems to be quite alright.
