I have a hand crank scratter and basket press for cider making but am looking to make plum wine and damson wine this year. Could I use that equipment to chop up and press the fruits? I've watched quite a few videos of plum wine being made but no one seems to do it that way.

Thanks.

I would not use the equipment just in case it breaks the stones. I make Damson wine on a regular basis and use a knife to cut all the way round the fruit - pull the halves apart and remove the stone. I then freeze the halves until I need them.

By the way if you are looking for a recipe/method for damsons - I use the one below

thanks for your advice. I don't think I'm collecting enough fruit to warrant the use of my press anyway.
