Mash Tun Cooler Question

I think some sort of recirculation is needed for me and then initial running SG for records, I'm also going to get some PH testings equipment.

Just as a side point - Is there a general rule of thumb for overheating strike water so it gets to the correct temperature once the grain has cooled it down?
 
I just use BeerSmith, I have my equipment profile and the temperature comes up in the brew steps. It's a good piece of software and cheap, am I allowed to promote it on here?
