IainM Black IPA

ABV. 5.8%

Aroma: 8.5 - 10
Appearance 9 - 10
Taste 7 - 10

Notes.
Black in colour but clear in the light with a lasting head. Top marks for looks. The aroma of this beer is just lovely nice and fruity with slight roasted notes and mild chocolate. Citrusy and hoppy. The taste of this beer is good with a strong bitterness and good hop taste with the dark malts coming through nicely quite dry and a lingering roasted taste. Brewhaha LBD black IPA

ABV. 5%

Aroma: 7 - 10
Appearance 8 - 10
Taste 6 - 10
Total 21 - 30

Notes.
A very dark black ipa definitely looks the part. Not much on the nose a slight fruity hop aroma. deffenetly getting the dark malts but very much like a stout. A hint of dark fruits maybe a little raison. As for the taste a nice roasty flavour but with not much hops coming through and very bitter. Its a very nice pint quite balanced but i think it leans more towards a stout than a black ipa Brewhaha LBD.jpg
 
RichardM Hop Fiction

ABV. 5.6%

Aroma: 8.5 - 10
Appearance 8 - 10

Notes.
A dark copper colour with good head. Slightly hazy with good but not overpowering carbonation. The aroma of this beer is excellent. Sweet citrus punchy juicy aroma. A lot of orange and grapefruit with a slight malty aroma in the background. The taste differs from the aroma a lot. Very sharp and a very pronounced bitterness with almost no sweetness from the malt. Quite a strong after taste. All in all a very nice beer in its own as its aroma brings you one way then the taste takes you another. Very tasty indeed RichardM.jpg
 
Dads_ale cryo gold

ABV 4.7%

Aroma: 7 - 10
Appearance 8 - 10
Taste 7 - 10
Total 22 - 30

Notes.
Golden slightly copper colour. Piney and slight citrus notes on the aroma very pleasant. Not much head. Good carbonation not over carbed. The taste is piney and citrus much like the aroma a nice malt back bone with little sweetness and a good but not overpowering bitterness. A very well balanced beer. Both recipes were my own, the BIPA is the fourth iteration of a recipe I've been working on since I started AG, and got an honorable mention at the London and South East Craft Brewing competition. The NEIPA had a grain bill based on the crowd-sourced Average Perfect NEIPA, but a completely different hop schedule, which I brewed for the monthly Cambridge Hop Heads homebrew club competition. The theme was "hop monsters", so I duly obliged, and it came second.

Thanks very much for taking the time to judge the entries and for the comments. The recipe I used was based on this https://brewdogrecipes.com/recipes/prototype-challenge-hop-fiction although I had to use a lot more of the 60 minuted chinook hops to get the suggested IBU

Thanks for the review. I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. It has changed in the weeks since but the roasty flavours still kill the hops dead (especially considering it was Nelson & Citra!).

Recipe is attached. Unfortunately I had a major stuck mash issue so ended up topping up with nearly a kilo of DME just to get close to my target OG.
