MOUNTAIN rescuers were called after a walker became stuck in snow on steep ground on a Lake District fell.

They were forced to search for the woman on the Old Man of Coniston the 'old-fashioned way' after her phone battery died.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) dispatched three Land Rovers to take team members to the top after being notified of the incident at around 1.50pm yesterday.
A CMRT spokesman said: "In the event, she had retraced her steps back over the summit, but was then unable to find the way down in the snow.

"Some passing walkers guided her down before meeting up with searchers."

I nearly couldn't drive home from work this morning as someone said they thought it was sleeting in the night...
Agree though Chippy... there's some right top hats about!

It wasn't too bad here this morning Clint but all the hills round here look like the one in the picture in the OP, the rain and sleet arrived about midday thankfully it hasn't settled and made the roads dangerous.

Such a shame her phone died on her, she never had a chance to post 'OMG, totes stranded in this mountain wilderness, #somebodysaveme' on her snappychat :laugh8:

I used to be a keen walker/rambler and would never dream of going out into what could possibly be a dangerous situation but these people have no thought for the people that may have to go out and rescue them do they not realise how much money it costs of public money plus the cost to the charities/volunteers who spend time raising money to provide these services( mountain rescue etc Air Ambulance).
I think all serious walkers/mountaineers and the like should have to be insured to cover the cost of rescuers air ambulance and the likes they are totally selfish going out in stupid conditions these people are there to provide assistance under normal conditions when a genuine accident has happened not for high risk selfish Ba67ar4s

The problem is these are unlikely to be the people that cause the rescue services to go out when they shouldn't need to its the idiots that go up these hills in trainers and with no clothing to keep them dry/warm if the whether changes that should be made to pay.

Here is another example of which there are hundreds -

A group of mates have been branded 'idiots' by rescuers who risked their lives to save them after hikers became trapped at the top of Ben Nevis.
The four pals, who were wearing trainers to climb the UK's highest mountain, got stuck near the summit during a deadly blizzard yesterday (10 February).
Rescuers were called to the scene and spent four hours trying to get the group off the mountain safely while facing deathly winds and an icy chill that dropped down to -20°C.
After having been saved, the friends were taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William. Their condition is not known.
Speaking about the incident, John Stevenson, leader of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, told the Mirror: "They were absolute idiots. They were all wearing trainers and decided to walk up Ben Nevis in those conditions. They were just plain stupid.
