Hi,

So I’ve just bought some equipment and looking forward to my first brew day (hopefully next week).

Done a lot of research and feel relatively ready to start but just want to check something about my new equipment.

So I have a mash tun, a stock pot and what I assumed was a HLT to begin with - but, as pictured, it has a false bottom, plus an insulated outside - is this also a kettle do you think? I was going to just use it for heating sparge water but now I’m unsure if that’s what it’s meant for. Any advice would be welcome!

Yep, looks like you have yourself an electric boil kettle there. I assume you're aiming for a three pot system and would be using the stockpot as your HLT (heating water on gas?), then mashing in the coolbox before doing your boil in the electric kettle.

I suppose you could also use electric for your HLT and use the stockpot as for boiling, but it would be a shame to waste the false bottom and two elements in that kettle will be great for bringing the wort to a boil.

Welcome to the forum too!

Thank you - That’s really helpful, I was pretty confused after I got it home! I will use the stockpot as the HLT, you’re right, it would be a waste not to make proper use of the boiler. And thanks for the welcome - really looking to forward to getting into it all.
