Oak chips ? Best options

Hi,

been lurking for a while made quite a few kits. Now am making more from fruit wines but want to add oakiness to flavour profile.
Where do folks buy them, most home brew sites don’t seem to have them or be out of stock. Finding some on eBay but reluctant to buy without recommendations

I quite often use Young's oak chips. (It's actually more of a powder, though.) Added at the beginning of fermentation. I think they are 50g packs, which is enough for a 5 gallon batch, without being too overpowering...

I think I used these or similar in my latest rhubarb wine. I boiled them and then added post fermentation and after racking to a clean FV. That way I could sample every few days and rack the wine back off of the chippings when happy with the level of oakiness.

Anywhere that sells bbq/smoking chips. Anything untreated will do.

Amazon is a good place to try and you'll find many other woods for different character. You can then further process them to a range of flavours, as per this article. Although that might not be as applicable to wine, as beer.
