I bottled a Chardonnay 2 weeks ago today and put 5ltre in a demijohn and stuck it away. Had a peak today and the cork was off it and lying on the shelve.

Smelled the wine and doesn’t smell off, but god knows how long that cork has been off. Gonna have to toss it I think 🥲Anyone else experienced this? I’m sure I put the cork on firm and it’s next to 2 other demijohns that have been there longer with no issue.

Its best to leave it under airlock and keep an eye on the water level to make sure the airlock doesn't dry out as you are never guaranteed it wont fermenting slowly once you think its finished, i have opened bottles of thoroughly degassed wine in the past and have found they hiss, better to be safe than sorry.

DON'T TOSS IT.
You can always do that later if you have to. The cork blew out for a reason so I'd put a drilled bung with an airlock in there, just to see what's happening.
I'd be inclined to be more worried about the bottles. Try venting one or two to see if there's any internal pressure. If there is, just vent them all now and again. All will probably be well.

I've known worse things come off one's demi-thingy!
