Pandemic deliveries just not cutting it.

I sometimes think writing "FRAGILE" on a package is just an invitation to some of these carriers.
Very true, I had a courier deliver a box that was split and very flimsy recently (during lockdown) and insisted that he took a photo of the package at my open front door, I then insisted that I took a photo of the package with him in the shot just incase anything was missing, nothing was and luckily it was just spraymalts and pouch kits.

I have a few friends who have worked for various courier companies at various times and they all advised me not to write “fragile” or any other cautionary notes on the packaging because, as you say it’s an invite.

I used to sell a lot of carbon fibre car parts and I remember in one instance a bonnet was thrown over someone’s fence into their garden which wrote the whole item off despite the very visible warnings.

On the whole, all of my orders with Brew2Bottle have arrived well packet, in one piece And in a timely manor. They’ve also just changed from Royal Mail to DPD which suits me fantastically.

Worst, delivery I had recently was a delivery from a Germany of bottles in which one was broken, these things happen but they packed it in layers with loads of those polystyrene pellets, suffice it to say lots of small pellets to dig through and glass shards, luckily an antiseptic wipe and a plaster for my finger was sufficient.
 
I've found couriers to be doing well at the moment, hermes, DPD, and parcel force have all been great, and I live in the middle of nowhere!
 
The problem seems to be that most deliveries are actually done by third party contractors, so for example DPD is excellent in the town I live in, in central Oxford where I work they are dire on occasion. Likewise Hermes are actually pretty good in my area as the driver who had the route, has being the same person for several years and knows the route.

Yes, I'm pretty sure most of the problems are regional, i can imagine a few places would have high demand and few staff.
 
I dont know why people are being so coy. People need to know these things so they can make a decision as to whether to buy from companies that use these couriers. Both Hermes (in particular) and Yodal have bad reputations (in some quarters).
@Gerryjo has given his reasons for not naming names yet. But if they don't come through for him I dont think he should feel prevented (by forum rules etc) that he shouldn't name the company if he wants to
I sent some 3m P3 face masks with Myhermes two weeks into the lockdown. They were for a mate who has no spleen, if he contracted the virus it would more than likely be game over. My mate had sat near his front door for two days but no one called and no ticket was left. They had got as far as Rochester as he lives in Hoo, the tracking said returned to sender. Of course they never arrived back here but I was told by Myhermes to wait 2 weeks. It was foolish of me to put them in a jiffy bag as the shape and feel would have been easily recognisable. As these masks were fetching £26 each at the time, someone decided to have them.
It turns out I had booked a service that offers no compensation. So in effect Myhermes could make all parcels disappear under this new postal service and the customer can't do a thing about it.
Myhermes have refused to compensate me.
I am going to take a chance and fill out a money claim online through the County court, purely just to see if what they are doing is legal and perhaps cause them a little inconvenience.
It is so infuriating.
Our local Myhermes lady is absolutely spot on in this part of N.Lincs, it's a shame she has to work for such an outfit and will now miss out on some commission.

Bought some malt, yeast and a clone AG kit (London Pride) from worcesterhopshop.co.uk on Monday. Arrived, well packed via UPS this morning. Looking forward to a brewing weekend!
 
I found DHL to be the best recently. UPS failed to collect two ebay sales in the same week. It's a lottery I guess. I don't think it's the number of failures a company has, (any company) it's how they deal with the customer after a mistake.
 
DPD every time for me. Never ever had a problem with them and always spot on.

To be fair the local Hermes guy is a nice chap and reliable, as are the Royal Mails guys where we live.

Yodel, just no!
