So that’s where the stolen Lincoln Welder finished up!

True story that! Someone managed to nick a towable Lincoln Welder from a Gas Plant I worked on! Also “missing in action” were:
  • A single 48” pipe wrench.
  • Seven Positive Displacement Meters.
  • 20ft long aluminium scaffold poles.
  • A 5 ton chain hoist.
  • A huge quantity of mercury.
  • Five 2ft x 6ft titanium sheets.
  • Etc etc!
The last two were discovered by Security (?) on the gate. The man with the chain hoist wrapped around his body couldn’t get on his push-bike and the man with the mercury (hidden in his push-bike frame) couldn’t pick it up when it fell over as he walked past the Gatehouse!

The five sheets of titanium were seen and recovered by the Refinery Manager. He saw them on his way to the refinery because the sun reflected off the chicken shed roof that they were covering!

A saying in the Police was “They’d nick the sugar out of your tea, if they could find a way!”

In a previous job processing carbon fibre pre-preg a frequent occurrence was a "wrap round" which involved the sticky cloth wrapping round a roller instead of continuing its path to the rewind. On such occasions we had to stop and use 48" stilsons to wind back the rollers to get it back on path. They went missing! Probably the works submarine commander...

….. They went missing! ….
I could understand somebody nicking TWO, but one ????

BTW, for people who are unaware of how Stilsons are measured, a 48” one means that the handle measured four feet in length!

On the refinery, they were normally used in two’s to tighten up 4” threaded pipes; a product which not everyone has at home!

A different sort of hammer has fallen on a century-old vampire fighting kit, complete with holy water bottle and wooden stake, after it was auctioned.
The bizarre box of paranormal paraphernalia, including candlesticks, crucifixes and pistols, was once owned by British peer Lord Hailey.
It sold for £13,000 at a Derbyshire auction - five times its guide price.
It is unclear how seriously Lord Hailey took the threat of vampires, or if the kit was ever used.
