No, no, no, no, no! We used to go to a Pie n Mash shop in Exmouth market near Farringdon years ago. My niece came with us sometimes but didn’t like the liquor so had gravy instead! We used to make her sit on another table on her own

The sauce is pretty nothing but when you dose it with vinegar it gets loads better. My friend took me to Manze's in Peckham and I was pretty disappointed but glad I'd finally done it.

Prepare to watch the most British thing you will ever see. It's well worth having a look at the comments for laughs. Warning though, there is eel death in this but you've got plenty of time to look away. I would go again if I went to this gaff because the old girls say it's better than the stuff sarrrrff.

I've never tried jellied eels, but grilled eel is one of the finest meals known to man.

I do like eel. The hardest part was getting the skin off...soon remedied by nailing the skin to the coal house door and ripping it off

In the 1960s there were still Eel Stalls in Petticoat Lane, London, with the eels being slaughtered live. Ghastly memory.....used to give me nightmares as a youngster. Probably why we made a dash for the sarsparilla stall

I live in Sarfend and had my first and last pie and mash on Canvey. It was bloody awful.

It was good value for money, however. It repeated on me for at least 24 hours.

Oh god, I get like that with meat crisps. Sometimes when I burp I can taste smokey bacon crisps my granny ate in 1953.
