RLBS told me to use a pipe of minimum half inch internal, that will stop the shudder and if you get the pressure right you can pull easily and not get foam. Agreed it will sparkle if you have too much pressure.
Most handpumps (not sure about the "Pint365"?) have 1/2" hose tails anyway (as do the demand valves they usually connect to). So, most people have little choice but to use 1/2" hose. But there's always the exceptions. But you've named the real offender: Too much pressure!

We've probably got the "craft-beer" scene to blame for that. They make keg beer, so why do they want to serve it from a device designed for beer with virtually no pressure behind it? Except to deceive their paying customers!

Doesn't include home-brewers of course! Because we're not drinking it within a day or two, we must maintain a modicum of top pressure, or the beer loses all condition (or worse .... goes off!).
