Former Liverpool and England striker Roger Hunt has died at the age of 83, the Premier League club has announced.

Hunt was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning side and is Liverpool's record league scorer with 244 goals.
The forward won 34 England caps, scoring 18 international goals after making his debut in 1962 when Liverpool were in English football's second tier.

Hunt played in every game of the 1966 World Cup and scored three times to help England out of their group.

"Roger Hunt comes second to no-one in his importance in the history of Liverpool FC, that much is clear," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Born in Golborne, Cheshire, on 20 July 1938, Hunt signed for Liverpool in 1958 and made his 404th and final appearance for the club in 1969, by which time fans had christened him 'Sir Roger'.

Under legendary manager Bill Shankly he helped the club out of the Second Division in 1962 by scoring 41 goals in as many games.

Liverpool then won the First Division in 1964 and 1966 either side of an FA Cup win in 1965.

Klopp added: "To be the goalscoring catalyst of the Shankly team to actually achieve promotion and then go on to win those precious league titles and the FA Cup puts him in a bracket of LFC legends who are responsible for making us the club we are today. Not only that, he was also a World Cup winner in 1966, too.

"I am told the Kop christened him 'Sir Roger' for all his achievements. A goalscorer who never stopped working to help his team-mates; I believe he would have fitted in well within our current team.

"So, it is Sir Roger we will remember, honour and pay tribute to over the coming days."

Jimmy Greaves, who played alongside Hunt in the group games of the 1966 World Cup before picking up an injury, died aged 81 earlier this month.

A Liverpool statement said: "We are mourning the passing of legendary former player Roger Hunt.

"The thoughts of everybody at Liverpool Football Club are with Roger's family and friends at this sad and difficult time."

From the starting eleven I believe Bobby Charlton, George Cohen and Geoff Hurst are the only survivors

RIP Sir Roger a great and underrated player who won the World Cup. The only player whose autograph I got when he opened the Northwich Vics open day in 1966. He started his career playing for Stockton Heath (now Warrington Town) before signing for Liverpool.

A truly fine actor.

UB40 former member Astro dies after short illness

British vocalist and former member of UB40 Terence Wilson, better known by his stage name Astro, has died aged 64.
Astro, who performed in the reggae pop band for more than 30 years, died after a short illness, his current band confirmed.
"We are absolutely devastated and completely heartbroken," said a statement on Ali Campbell and Astro's Twitter account.
"The world will never be the same without him."
Astro joined UB40 in 1979 - shortly after the band was formed - but left in 2013 and went on to perform with breakaway group UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro, which had played some concerts this year and was due to go on tour in 2022.
The original band broke through in the early 1980s with their unique take on British reggae and found success with hits like Red Red Wine and Can't Help Falling In Love.
The Birmingham-based group - named after the then government's unemployment benefit form - sold more than 70 million records and had three UK number one hits.

Remember buying their first single from W H Smith's in Aberystwyth.
And their first album when I had a card which matched the cover.

Gerald Sinstadt: Former BBC and ITV commentator dies aged 91

Sinstadt's work for the BBC and ITV made him one of football broadcasting's most recognisable voices in the 1970s after starting at Granada Television.
From 1970 to 1982, he covered four World Cups for ITV and later worked on Olympic Games for the BBC.

"He was a craftsman, a very good commentator and just a lovely man," said Andrew Clement, who worked with Sinstadt at the BBC for about 30 years.

While racist taunts from the terraces during the 1970s were often overlooked by football commentators, Sinstadt was one of the first to call out the abuse during his commentary, such as during West Brom's 5-3 win at Manchester United in 1978.

He commentated on many other iconic games of that period, including Denis Law's backheel goal for Manchester City against United in 1974 and Liverpool's European Cup quarter-final second-leg win against St Etienne in 1977.

He also covered West Germany's victory against France in their controversial 1982 World Cup semi-final and Diego Maradona's goal at the 1994 World Cup prior to his expulsion from the tournament.

After rejoining the BBC in the 1980s, Sinstadt was the pitchside reporter on the day of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 and appeared in Jimmy McGovern's 1996 TV docu-drama about the tragedy.

Sir Frank Williams, founder and former team principal of the Williams Racing Formula 1 team, has died aged 79.

He built the team named after him into one of the most successful in the sport.
During his time with Williams, the team won nine constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles, and dominated much of the 1980s and 1990s.

He and daughter Claire moved away from the sport in September 2020 after selling Williams to US investors.

In a statement, the Williams team said: "It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Williams family, the team can confirm the death of Sir Frank Williams CBE, founder and former team principal of Williams Racing, at the age of 79.

"After being admitted into hospital on Friday, Sir Frank passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by his family.

"Today we pay tribute to our much loved and inspirational figurehead. Frank will be sorely missed. We request that all friends and colleagues respect the Williams family's wishes for privacy at this time."

Williams was a wheelchair user after suffering a spinal cord injury in a car crash in France in 1986.

F1 president and chief executive Stefano Domenicali paid tribute to Williams, whom he described as "a true giant of our sport".

Domenicali added: "He overcame the most difficult of challenges in life and battled every day to win on and off the track. We have lost a much loved and respected member of the F1 family and he will be hugely missed.

"His incredible achievements and personality will be etched on our sport forever. My thoughts are with all the Williams family and friends at this sad time."

Current Williams drivers George Russell and Nicholas Latifi also paid their respects.

"Sir Frank was such a genuinely wonderful human being and I'll always remember the laughs we shared," said Russell.

"He was more than a boss, he was a mentor and a friend to everybody who joined the Williams Racing family and so many others."

Canadian Latifi added: "RIP Sir Frank Williams. Such sad news. A huge loss for our sport and our team.

"It's been an honour to represent your name on the world stage and we will continue to push hard to take the team back up the grid."
