Our middle son is a co-director of a large high school band program here in Maryland. For a young man, he has been a music educator for a long time (marching band, 7 year elementary school music director, a trumpet academy, and a private trumpet studio). This is his first full-time high school teaching gig. We attended their winter concert this evening, and while we might be prejudiced, we were so impressed with the overall talent level of the students.

The two pieces I recorded were:

Loch Lomond performed by the Symphonic Band (an entry level ensemble) and conducted by our son:



and Sleigh Ride, performed by the more advanced Wind Ensemble and conducted by the co-director:

Can't beat a good brass band, my favourite piece Dvorak New World Symphony, Largo, visited Dvorak's grave in Prague, though I think the Americans took him as their own.
