Smod kindly gave me a bottle of his Crossbreed to try:

First of all I was drawn to the label on the bottle, the use of a post-it note for simplicity is superb :thumb: ;) The bottle had a nice strong hiss upon opening and I think that the carbonation of the beer was spot on. It was also nice and clear, it would easily pass a feck-test. This tastes to me like a summer session beer and would have been nice slightly cooler I think. Light on the tongue, very clean tasting but with a deep lingering bitterness which reminded me of a strong orange peel aroma. One down point that I picked up was a slight aftertaste that shouldn't be there, almost a bit chemically (sorry can't describe it better) it didn't really detract from what I thought was a nice beer, well put together and a good one to serve up in the summer!

Cheers Mate :thumb:

Thanks for the review. :thumb:

Nice pint glass, where do you get that from

Well, I've got over half a keg of it left as I'm ok with it but agree with Wez, it's got an aftertaste BUT it's never got worse but is still drinkable. Maybe my malt was a bit old (nearly 9 months to 1 year   )and so were the hops (I keep the hops in a freezer now) and I've got some fresh malt for the next brew.

It was brewed from GW's book and was based on Heller Kolsch.

Well maybe next time I brew it I'll have all fresh ingredients so that would discount that as a possible cause.

Thanks Wez.

PS. As long as it passes the Feck Test I don't care what it tastes like

Maybe you should try one out of the keg to see if it's different. I did bottle that from the keg so it may have picked something up on the way.

I'm going in the garage to test again.

Yes I'm going in the garage Wez, I may be some time !!  If I don't respond in 10 mins call the emergency services

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Don't go in the garage!!!!!

Phew!!! Just made it back, it was scary

Tasted the Crossbreed. No "chemical" taste just a big bitterness that lingers. I think that because the hops were old then the flavour has diminished and therefore only the bitterness comes through. You'll have to try.

Also tried Sandyback Gold, that's more of a Summer session beer. Again, try it and let me know. :thumb:

I think you had Sandyback Gold too.

You can tell which one it is from the classy label
