Beast Of The Midlands Mild. 5.5%

Really impressed with the label, great first impression. A good hiss on opening with a lively pour (I always err towards encouraging a bigger foam when I pour homebrew!) The head was light brown, mostly small bubbles and persisted well. The beer is jet black and opaque.

Aroma is mostly dominated by a roast character, and a little burnt treacle. No esters or hop aroma, not that I’d expected any.

Mouthfeel is quite light, the carbonation fills it out nicely.

Flavour is similar to the aroma, with a little spicy note perhaps from hops in the finish. Really clean flavour, no off flavours and a lovely dry finish. I don’t really know where the dividing line between a mild and a stout is but this was a great antidote to some of the adjunct heavy sweet craft stouts I’ve had.

Absolutely loved this and would really like to see the recipe. I’ve had very little success with dark beers and getting close to this would make me very happy.

Next up is an Export Stout, really happy to get 2 dark beers this year!

Thank you. Good review. You must have got one of the better bottles. Happy to share. The recipe is on malt miller.

Ajhutch has done lovely review and SNRub has sent me a message recently Third has not reviewed but that was the extra one I sent. Not sure who it went to

Thanks to Steve for sending me a red English IPA as my second Santa swap didn't show. Very much appreciated.
It's a new style for me.
The beer itself pours a lovely dark red this could nearly pass for an American amber in colour with a nice head which lasts the full drink.
Aroma you can get a nice malt aroma paired with light hops
The taste is similar it has a real depth of flavour. It has a nice mouth feel. It has a good balance with no harsh flavours with the right amount of bitterness for an IPA.
Over all a very nice beer which I enjoyed drinking.
I would be interested in seeing the recipe so I can try and pick out the taste of the hops and malt used.
Thanks again:hat:
