I call them the popular term that many people call them, they moan about Brexit at every opportunity this thread being a perfect example.
I will point out the facts again in case anyone missed it sewage was pumped into the sea before Brexit so what was posted in the OP was wrong I pointed that out and I am accused of being biased, you couldn't make it up.
If you truly had no bias, you wouldn’t use a derogatory term.

It’s a bit like if I was to referee a football match involving Middlesbrough and calling them The Smoggies all match. I claim to be impartial but I’m using a derogatory term for them that is used by Newcastle and Sunderland fans.

Maybe if they stopped moaning people would stop calling them remoners!
Simples as the little annoying furry critter says.

The argument has moved on and the more people are small-minded and nasty, the more we are playing into the hands of the TS who engineered this sorry state. We need to face up to the fact that it's not working, not because it can't work, but because the Junta don't want it to work. They need to have somebody to blame and have some "bullies" to stand up to so that we can rally around some imaginary standard, lick our imaginary wounds and feel jolly good about ourselves regaining the old "blitz spirit"!
There's no question of turning the clock back- Europe would be mad to have us back, especially after all the bad faith that has been shown this year- so we need to get shot of this self-interested bunch of goons and install a government that will work with Europe to the benefit of both. Here is the real challenge, not bickering over whatever water has gone under the bridge.
Cameron, as you say, was (and probably still is) a tossser.

I see what you are saying and I do agree with it.

I don't get involved much with political debates on here. I despair in general at the state of things 😖

It's the ordinary voter in the street that brings me close to tears of despair- the apathy of some, the "well we can't do anything about it can we!" from others, the ignorance and indifference of the majority. The Wise One, who is a great historian never tires of reminding me that the rise of nazism (they were democratically elected) was brought about through propaganda, misinformation and a gradual take over of freedoms and rights from the people to the state, the weakening of the custodians of the law etc. I think she's exaggerating, but its a question of degree and not of kind.
Right, back to my brew. Enough of all this gloom. The sun's shining and the beer needs chilling.
Rejoice. cheers:

How do I earn that much money in the council? I’m an Accounting Manager in the council and I’m on nowhere near that. Our head of finance is on nowhere near £100k+ either. Our Chief Exec is the only person in the organisation earning that, and it isn’t his job to go out and check drainage.

I love the myths that people that have no idea about how councils work love to trot out.
It's the ones at the top I meant. Ultimately being in charge any falling down of services lies with them.

The only mugs are the ones who think it would be better under a socialist government.😆
You would have to go far out to the left before you came across a more corrupt, dishonest and self serving government than the lot we have now

Deny this even the Daily Mail doesn't

FFS take the time to read the full thread again, no one is denying pumping sewage is wrong what we are saying is our sewerage systems cannot cope with the amount of flood water going into the storage tanks in times of heavy rain so its either pump it out to sea or let it back up into our homes there is no third option, this has been going on for donkeys years and its nothing to do Brexit!

Your problem was making out in your opening post that it was down to Brexit instead of just posting the facts.

This government is turning a blind eye to water companies pumping raw sewage into rivers and the sea. No wonder they wanted Brexit so standards could be ignored.

I've posted the facts and you're denying don't know why but seems consistent.

I have and it changes nothing they were doing this years before brexit so the sewage systems have never had the work desperately needed done to them hence the problem we now have what are the water companies supposed to do wave a magic wand and make sewage disappear?

Having read the article again i noticed it states Covid-19 caused disruptions to the supply chain of key chemicals used by water companies to treat the discharge they are allowed to dump treated sewage i guess they are only allowed to dump raw sewage when its an emergency.

The vote comes nearly two months after the UK’s departure from the European Union and Covid-19 caused disruptions to the supply chain of key chemicals used by water companies to treat the discharge – similarly to the petrol crisis.

Your denying it's linked to Brexit when the government can now vote to pump raw sewage into our seas and kill fish and marine life.

The EU helped clean up our filthy sea and beaches this lot are reversing that. Even the right wing papers and media condemn it. This government is now accountable to no one. I find that scary do you.

I am not denying that that vote was after Brexit but again it changers nothing you seem incapable of taking onboard the fact Brexit didn't cause sewage to be pumped into the sea what causes it is the fact our sewerage systems cannot cope with the amount of flood water going into the storage tanks in times of heavy rain so its either pump it out to sea or let it back up into our homes so as they have been doing for many years they choose option one.

If they had voted differently in the vote in 2020 do you honestly think no more sewage would have been pumped into the sea it will take years to bring our outdated sewage systems up to date where are they going to put all the sewage while they do the work?

Interesting debate on the radio on this subject today. Some boffin crunched the numbers the companies have given out in dividends in the 30 odd years of privatisation just 2 years worth of that money invested of the years could have upgraded our system to make it fit for purpose. Just saying.
