I wonder if a throttle tempts you to use the assist, more than you would with PAS? I have no particular preference for either system, just weighing up the pro's and cons.
A throttle just gives you the choice, was what I found. If you want to ride around entirely on power like a eMoped or something, then of course you can, and conversely you can just switch it off (and your ride will be tougher workout than on a standard bike), but you also have infinite instant options available to you in between those two extremes. It really is down to the rider and what they want or don't want to get out of the ride. PAS is really just predetermined throttle positionings that increase assistance within certain fixed parameters with pedal revs. If you can't manage your ride better than that manually with a throttle then maybe PAS is a good choice. Please bear in mind that I have only ridden cheap versions of all the eBike stuff, so there may be others that can tell you that if you spend 11k on a Specialised S Works Turbo Creo SL, the PAS is fantastic. LOL. But seriously, I can only really comment from my limited and narrow experience based on what I have used, and a purpose-built eBike in the £2000 range might have incredibly sophisticated PAS. I guess the best thing would be to go and try some. I hope all this has helped.

I do like that Wilier e-bike. My lightweight hardtail, pictured previously is the 2nd generation version. the 101x. I had the 101xn previously but after an accident i replaced the frame with the new model. The new one is probabaly just as fast but slightly more compliant. I do love the styling.

Should really have put up some better pictures but i was having a few shandies last night and those were the best i could trawl up at the time.

The E-bike discussion is very interesting. i have only ever had a short test on a Cube from a local retailer but i must say, i guess these things certainly add value to the whole cycling experience and should be able to help you peak in areas where you may have slumped in the past.

Furthermore, as the technology develops, i get older, maybe i will be in the right place at the right time to lean more on this sort of thing. we are blessed.

3 bikes -Wester Ross touring bike @1882 Frame custom built- Saracen Protrak M.B @1993 approx and a Raliegh Airlite300 @2010 approx. All used and in good condition. WR used the most as the other half now has an electric bike as her joints are causing problems and its the most compatible to what she can now manage

any pictures? sounds interesting

All i can manage is this for now, a starter for ten. Old technology these days but i am planning on retro fitment to an old 531 frame that has a few battle scars. Found it in a skip.

Gonna put some fatter tires on it since i am a big lad (17st in estimations)

P.S. never been a competitive athlete by any sense. I just love quality, design and the like. Often just because i can!

Currently, i am a 45 year old lorry driver. With long hours (for now) getting in the way of all my other far more important hobbies.

I hurt myself at the end of last year and when the pandemic kicked off my phisio was stopped. So I decided to treat myself to this in the Sale’s it’s been a good summer ☀ but the weathers changing 🥶
Nice bike, and yes the weather is turning, but for me it is important to keep motivated and have a goal to train for. When the weather really turns and the salt is on the road, if you keep riding this bike you will need to give it a bit of a wash or at least rinse after use to keep corrosion at bay. I have a dedicated winter bike with mudguards, it means I don't have to ride my best bikes in the salt and mudguards keep it (and me) drier and cleaner.

I’m a fine weather cyclist and motorcyclist !
If it’s wet I’d rather just go walking 😂🤣
I now tend to just tax my 🏍 from April through to September.

I know some of those roads rather well, not cycled them yet but I would love to ride the north coast and the wild atlantic way
Ireland is a lovely country. Donegal has some really great scenery. If you ever decide to visit drop me a message. I would happily go cycling with you. Mamore gap is a monster of a climb both sides.

Cheers, will do, not been to Donegal but I have worked a lot on the north coast in Derry and Antrim, have a friend who lives in Connemara south of Galway who I have stayed with and another friend in Kerry who I stayed with. Sadly none of it cycling and given the current situation it could be a while but I will drop you a PM if I get over for cycling.
