Has anyone ever used a submersible heater element? I have all the kit to do all grain but moved house and now have a induction hob which my big pot won't work with. I have been given a electric hot plate to use which I think will work but I would like a heater element just to give it a helping hand upto the boil. Only thing I can find it for aquariums
Thanks

I too have only seen aquarium ones, I'm afraid.
Would something like this be an option though, with a propane bottle?

Nice find - looks like it's got a 70ºC cutout though...
Didn't get a look at the initial specs as I was in a hurry but there is also this which will certainly do the trick.

Summary

  • Don’t fret about a broken boiler: get the Spiral Electric Water Heater!
  • Heat washing up bowls, baths & swimming pools in an emergency
  • 3000W power, heat conducting alloy & spiral design boils water rapidly
  • Plastic top, insulated cable & bonus digital thermometer keep you safe
  • Only 28cm long - perfect for storing in your cupboards until it’s needed

I think my mrs has one of those...

Edit: On a serious note, I'd be triple checking the case on that thing was properly earthed before it went anywhere near a socket.
Normally a good indicator is a solid earth prong on the plug top which this has as other which can claim to be double insulated have a plastic prong as this is needed to access the wall socket outlet.
Shouldn't be too hard to remove the cover for a quick check though.
