I'm just about ready to transfer a brew to a Corny.
Would this worK if not why not?
Initial gassing in through the outlet post bubbling Co2 down the internal long tube through the beer.
Connect beer tap to the gas post (short tube).
Open tap to purge the top of the Corny.
Leave beer to carbonised under pressure as normal.
Before use:-
Switch the Co2 back to is proper post
Switch the beer line/tap back to its proper post.

Nothing to stop you gassing it up through the outlet, just connect a gas line to an outlet disconnect.

Most cornies have pressure relief valves so assuming that you do not need to connect a tap to the gas post just pull the ring on the relief valve to purge. If yours doesn't then you might need to do this.

If I wanted to take this approach I'd:

Fill keg.
Connect gas to in post, pressure to ~30psi.
Turn gas off.
Pull the relief valve to let the gas out.
Do the above a few times to purge the keg finally leaving at ~30psi.
Tun off gas and remove.
Connect gas line to out post with out disconnect.
Set to desired carbonation pressure an leave to carbonate.
Finall when ready to drink swap the lines around as suggested.

I'm sure it'll work, but I don't really understand why you'd do it? There may be a bit of air left at the top of the keg as the gas side dip tube terminates a few inches below the top top of the keg.

You'd be better to burp the keg using the PRV on the lid, unless you've got old cornys that don't have a lid with a PRV.

Thanks that's really good to hear.
I was thinking a few mins of lower pressure bubbling might help speed up the carbonation before the 30psi stage?

I watched a youtube video where a guy connected up a 2ltr pet pop bottle to a Co2 regulator.
First he 3/4 filled bottle with water. Squeezed out the headspace air.
Inverted the bottle and turned on the gas.
I was impressed by how long the gas continued to bubble up through the water as the gas was being absorbed in the water.
That's where I got the idea.
Unfortunately manhandling 20ltrs is a bit to difficult for me now.
I have to plan ahead :-)
