There you go, it makes sense to me.

Thanks.

That has been posted a couple of times in the thread and is the reason i now take 2 x 10mg tablet of vitamin D along with my morning multivitamin (bringing the total vitamin D to 25mg) what i don't understand is why the figures are so high for the ethnic minorities , i don't imagine many of us spend enough time out in the sun in winter to make enough vitamin D to fight the virus so i am surprised the figures are not closer.

Just a few observations about the way forward. The end of this virus will be by herd immunity either from a vaccine or 70-80% of the population getting it, we have gone far beyond any chance of eradicating it short of the most extreme lock down and extensive quarantine of all inbound flights, boats and trains. At the moment I don't think anyone knows how long immunity lasts after getting the disease other than you must have some or you would not have recovered and it would be unusual to not have immunity for a year more likely 2+ but its not a virus that is at all usual, also if it mutates you may not be immune any more or you could still be (or putting it another way the antibodies you have may or may not still work against it. Note I have no medical knowledge just what I have heard or read.

The guidance remains clear that those who can work from home should continue to do so, which suggests office workers will not be returning to work for many weeks - or even months - to come.

Here's hoping, long may this continue! athumb..

Its ******** chippy they are gettin nothing right now..

If Lockdown is released in June before they have to give in to this they have scrweed self emplyoed over

My partner is self emplyed she is absolutley screwed over her income has gone to pracitcally zero shes been SE for years aswell and has to hope the government will invite her to apply.

If this lockdown goes on my longer she will be "breaking the rules" to come live with me.. I will help her to work so she can feed herself and her child. In turn she can help look after my kids so I can work as my work are threatening people who dont work from office they must come in no options.. People can judge away but when you are destitute and deperate we have no choice. I won't apologise to no one for it either.
Your needs are clearly more important Cov, those like you and yours who are in an unenviable position should not be persecuted.- I've seen so many tw&ts breaking lockdown for their own selfish non-important entertainment , hopefully they'll be the ones the police haul up.

I think we may be getting a few new members from india!

"Officials in India’s capital have imposed a special tax of 70% on retail alcohol purchases to deter large gatherings at stores as authorities ease a six-week lockdown imposed to slow the spread of coronavirus. "

More face mask gubbins (from the Guardian). It seem more and more organisations are coming around to using masks. BJ said in the last daily briefing he did that masks would be "useful"

Face masks should be worn on flights in future - IATA
The body representing global airlines says that it is recommending the wearing of masks on flights to prevent the spread of coronavirus when flying restarts.
David Powell, medical adviser to the International Air Transport Association, told reporters on a conference call on Tuesday that while normal seat allocation can be maintained, it was recommending the mandatory wearing of masks or face coverings on board.

More vitamin D info from Dr. Campbell. A study in Indonesia show people with low vitamin D are 10 times more likely to get complications and die. It's not peer reviewed but there were 780 patients in the study and the P value is less than 0.001. For those of you that go to Brulosophy you'll know that is very, very significant without much chance that it's wrong.

Go to 18 minutes if the link takes out time.

I did watch it all hence my decision to take 25mg a day even though i do go out a lot!

I think you missed my point, if a white person doesn't go outside much (because of lockdown) their levels of vitamin D will be fairly low the same as a person from ethnic minority who either doesn't go out or who does go out but doesn't absorb much sun because of the colour of his/her skin, so we have white people with low vitamin D and those from ethnic minorities with low vitamin D yet a disproportionate amount of people from ethnic minority are dying from Covid-19.

Seems we have now have the highest death toll in Europe. Which would mean we have the second highest in the world!

2The UK now has the highest coronavirus death toll in Europe, according to official statistics.

A total of 32,375 deaths involving Covid-19 have now been registered across the UK - outstripping the death toll in Italy of 29,079."

A bit of a worry as it looks like something is going to be announced about relaxing lockdown on Sunday.

The average white person is low on vit d in winter due to lack of sunlight while the average black person is low in summer and extreme low in winter, but a black person who spent 2 months of winter sun bathing in the canary islands would has a better level of it that a white person in the UK but its the average that creates the results.

That's what I was thinking. We'll be No.1 in the world if were not careful
If you adjust for the population we are behind Italy but likely to end around the same from this 1st wave we are also behind Spain, Andorra, Belgium, San Marino and 5 of the US states.

I keep reading about adjusting for the population/per million but 32,000 dead is still an awful lot of people and Im sure cold comfort for the relatives

Under normal circumstances the white person would have more vit D than the one from the EM group as they absorbe the sun better but this these are not normal times and as the majority of both white and Em's are spending little time outside I still don't get why the difference is so huge.
