    Hi!
I've just received this by email:
To celebrate St. Patricks Day this year we are knocking 10% OFF of everything on the website for the next few days or until stocks last, so get your order in quick and don’t be disappointed. The discount is already applied so no need to enter a code. Products which are already on offer are not part of the deal.
Terms: No other discount codes can be used in conjunction with this offer.

I did see that, although I think their prices on the website have messed up somewhere, the 25kg of uncrushed malt, which I purchased for £19.95 for last week, has been discounted to £23.35 (with the £19.95 price crossed out). Yes that's a way to encourage people to buy!

Thought it was 17% off last year :(

Oh well, probably still buy the Cornies I was hoping to get in the sale as I doubt I'll see them any cheaper anytime soon. No using the forum discount code either by the sound of it.

Just to confirm that our normal HBF discount is deactivated during the sale.

How do I find that, and how much is the discount? Meanwhile, 10% ain't enough and I'm waiting for the big Easter sale. I presume there'll be one?

There's a sticky in the Sponsors section with all the details. Don't post the codes elsewhere in the forum as they'll then be visible to non-members.

Thanks Graz, the sponsor forum is now visible to guests.

I dont recall HBC having an Easter Sale in addition to their St Patricks Day sale. Their prices are normally better than most anyway, they have a big range of stuff, and the 10% discount is better than what we normally get. The only drawback is that you have to spend £70 to get free P&P but most online suppliers will have a limit that's not much less than that, or if they don't you will pay more anyway.

I didn't make the decision but is there any benefit in having it to be hidden, this way the sponsors products are visible to many hundreds instead of just members.

Seems to defeat the object of having a 'members discount' if anyone can take advantage, by clicking in the right place. Presumably the sponsors (or more precisely the companies who have kindly offered us discount) are happy with the world and his wife knocking x% off their bottom line, when their products are out there for all to see on their respective websites, without a discount being offered?
If I was buying homebrew stuff I would looking at the suppliers website first not be coming on here to see if I could get a few% discount. I assume its all about attracting clicks to our website which in turn attract our advertisers, or aren't I allowed to say that?

So it would not accept my code today because of their current sale?

As I said earlier the decision was not mine and if it was made to create more revenue to keep the forum going do you think that is a bad thing?

I would like to think of it as sustaining revenue streams to keep the forum going. More revenue is of no consequence to me.
However having forum discounts which anyone can access is hardly going to bring in guests, but having exclusive use of discounts might be attractive to someone who might be interested in joining. But reading between the lines it seems we might be more attractive to advertisers based on guest hits rather than number of members. That aside if I were one of our supporting sellers I might think twice about providing a discount to the world and his wife. But I'm not, so it matters not one jot really. Well not until we can't negotiate discounts for members (and everyone else of course), and then I might become a bit miffed.

    would

As i have already said I do not know why the decision was taken to have all forums visible and it is of no consequence to me why it was taken.

Having said that I imagine like most things in life the costs of running two of the most popular home brew forums in the U.K and USA is not going to get cheaper by the year so the more revenue the sites can generate the better.

If not having an exclusive 5% discount would put a guest off joining to be honest they are the sort of members we don't need.
