About time these little ******* got what they deserved.

Met Police officers are ramming into suspected moped thieves to knock them off their bikes, even during high-speed pursuits.

Dashcam footage released by Scotland Yard shows police pursing suspected thieves across London.

The Met say the drivers are specially trained and aim to end pursuits before riders or members of the public are injured.

Commander Amanda Pearson said there was no maximum speed police cars could hit mopeds and many thieves wrongly believed officers would end their pursuit if the suspect drives dangerously or removes their helmet.

The suspects, some as young as 14 and others driving at up to 100mph, were "riding dangerously before there is any sort of police vehicle involved", she said.

She added: "The public quite rightly expects us to intervene to keep London safe. Our highly-trained police drivers weigh up the risks and decide upon the most appropriate tactics in those circumstances."

I'd happily see these little shites knocked off their mopeds. Only problem though is that this raises the stakes and could make them ride even more recklessly when being chased putting the public in greater danger. Will the police end up accountable if people are injured during a pursuit?

Assuming they are mopeds and are limited to 30 mph they are probably already going as fast as they can so i doubt they could be ridden any more recklessly or put the public in greater danger.

Great stuff, but the problem will be if one of the riders suffers a serious injury, there’ll be a court action against the Police.

I doubt they will get far as the article says "Our highly-trained police drivers weigh up the risks and decide upon the most appropriate tactics in those circumstances" no judge is going to show any sympathy for these scroats.

Let's hope that they're all actually guilty, after all the London police don't have a very good track record.

Considering the sort of scum they have to deal with, and the thousands of arrests made each month, I would say they an excellent track record.

If they are riding like the ones in the video after committing an offence then they deserve everything they get.

As a Hackney resident and working in an office that often see's that sort :-) couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch. Unruly and they think they are law proof. there is old footage on youtube of them shooting at a police car in Hackney as they bomb around the streets.

Apparently the police doing this are not regular cops, they are a small number of specially trained officers.
Moped crime is said to have dropped by 1/3 in recent months. Let’s not forget these criminals have in some cases done more than just snatch phones. People have been attacked with hammers and acid.

Seems a sensible approach by the police. Establish a policy, train officers to stick to it and then implement it. Taking out the moped as a viable method of committing a range of crimes could be a game changer.

If all right thinking citizens chip in a quid apiece I am sure we can cover all liability. Lets hope this is the first step in regaining the streets.

For the personal touch I think they should drive alongside, put the window down and push them off. Or,grab hold and see how fast they can really go.
