How refreshing to see a referee dealing with melodramatic, dirty playing, chancing a dirty tackle stuff today.
    Unlucky Chelsea !

If refs stamped down on shirt pulling, diving etc players would stop doing it yet they seem to turn a blind eye.

Agreed - I’d love to see a rugby style approach to football refereeing.

I remember a referee sent a player off for shirt pulling when a corner as being taken a couple of seasons ago and the commontators slated him for being too harsh, who would want to be a ref in the modern game.

    Couldn't agree more :thumb:
However, what will happen as the season progresses is that all the fresh initiative that has come with the new season will slowly fade and we will be back where we started by Christmas. This seems to happen every year. Look what happened to surrounding the referee. What top class football needs are referees in the mould of Nigel Owens.

I agree Terry - not helped by the knobs on Match of The Day scrutinising every single refs decision. That’s got to stop.

Really needs everything to be behind that initiative , citings for people who abuse react or get away with stuff aswell and people to support this.

Problem is culture, in rugby you are taught from the start to respect your officials and the other team. Respect is a rare thing in football sadly.

I also think it need the governing body of the referee and the FA to be behind the refs 100% too. So their not afraid to make controvesial decisions.

All these players surrounding the ref, pulling shirts, trying to get other players booked, diving, etc. Would very stop it if they knew they were in serious danger of getting sent off for all the above stuff. They only do it because they know they can get away with it

They were supposed to be clamping down on surrounding the ref but it doesn't seem the refs know.

Great win for Liverpool tonight - but yet again stupid scrutinisation of the referee in the after match analysis.

It’s so negative. Football drives me potty !

I see Ronaldo got an extra 4 match ban, on top of the one match ban for his two yellows, for pushing the ref - and too bleedin' right! How many kids look up to him and copy him?

    Persecuted he says.
Don't you feel sorry for him.
Still, I feel an film acting career beckons after football. He certainly has had plenty practice of acting to a big audience in recent years, and also likes the look of himself on the big screen.

Persecuted? Pfft. He got the first yellow for taking his shirt off - any professional footballer knows this is an automatic yellow (no money shot of the club sponsor when the camera's zoom in on the goal scorer) . So he should know he was taking a big risk trying a bit of gamesmanship with a dive.
As for laying a hand on the ref, he must have thought his summer holiday on his yacht wasnt long enough

IMO he should be told to shut up take his punishment or risk it being extended..

Probably not in the laws to do that, but they should make it.. Footballers can behave appallingly petulant at times and get away with it..
