As with most things Burnham says its been poorly researched and doesn't show the whole picture, that fare would be an on the day walk up price in 1st class. What he fails to tell you is that you could either buy a ticket a few days before for a certain train for around the £20-£25 Mark, you could also buy virtually up to departure subject to availability tickets on any train to London at considerably less than his quote.
I work on the railway and most if not all of what Burnham says about it is usually incorrect and a way to get exposure for himself.

I don't think this is about him getting exposure i think he is doing a good job demonstrating how expensive rail travel is, the prices he quotes for the plane tickets is not the norm but you can get them for that if you do a little homework.

I would rather Burnham was labour leader Starmer reminds me of a labour version of David Cameron.

He once complained to my office about about a patient who was a constituent of his and was unhappy about the waiting time to see a specialist in my hospital. He demanded to know why they were waiting as long as they were. My response was that they had been given appointment well within the timeframe stipulated by the Secretary of State for Health, who at the time of this was Andy Burnham himself. He did not pursue the matter further.

Burnham is all about himself, always has and always will be. Each to their own but in my opinion he would be an awful leader for the Labour Party and based on past experience I'd fully expect to see him there in the next couple of years
