Were you a Mondeo man?

I was definitely a Mondeo man and I loved my ST. When I needed to replace it they’d stopped making them or I’d have had another. Instead, I had to have something that looked similar(ish) and with an even bigger engine. I love this too!

About 15 years ago a good friend died after a suffering from ms for years & some weeks after the funeral his widow phoned me up & asked "I have some swords & piles of books & videos, would you like them?". I rock up round there to find 5 swords on his bed & his lifetimes collection of hard core porn, Boxes of DVD's, Mags, hardback books, all sorts. She just wanted me to get rid of it. It was a bit surreal loading that lot into my pickup & it filled the back of it to the brim!
On the way out she asked "Oh & would you like the mondeo?" I hadnt really noticed it. They had used it once a month for his hospital apointment as his wheelchair wouldnt go in the back of her Ka. She hated the sight of it & just wanted it gone so gave it to us for nothing. The Mondeo was tatty & dirty, duct tape on its front bumper, But it was a 2ltr Mk2 R reg 98 hatchback with just 49,000 miles on it. I was going to flog it on but my wifes Peugot broke down the day before were were going to lancashire so we swopped the insurance over & took the Mondeo. Got back had a new cambelt put in it & flogged the peugot instead!
She was pleased with the mondeo less so with the porno!
We had that Mondeo for 5 years & sold it for £300, Absolutely great car. Not long after that i bought a 2ltrR Reg Ghia x estate from a mate who worked at fords & had had it from his father, it had done 46,000 miles & was pristine. Probably the best car i have ever had, that one met its end when the fuel tank to filler pipe join started pouring petrol out. Different parts to the saloon & absolutely unobtainable. In the end with its clutch going & the fuel leak it was traded in. Wish i still had it.
One of the best cars ford ever made.

A mate of my Dads offered me first dibs on his 2.0 Mondeo when I was 18. Didnt think it would attract the lay-dees, so went with a 3dr Astra SRi 2.2 instead.

Must have worked, because Im now married to the girlfriend I had at the time.... 🤣

I used to hire these when I had to attend IT conferences. I had at the time an M reg hyundai accent 1.3. I remember taking the hire mondeo up to birmingham via brecon (due to motorway roadworks or accident - cant remember which) There was a corner on the A4059 North of Hirwaen that I could get round at 35 in the hyundai. I glanced at the speedo in the Mondeo and I was doing 50 on the same corner. The car stuck to the road like glue. After that I just had to have one. a T reg ford used approved 2 year old. Just a 1.8 115ps LX same body shape as in the top photo. It had aircon CD electric windows and quick clear windscreen. Luxury. I loved that car, but had to trade it in for a Zafira as the family grew. Only issue I had was the aircon packed up. It was replaced under warranty but would have cost £500. Turns out you have to keep using air con regularly or it can seize up. I hadn't switched it on during the winter as the quick clear windscreen was faster at demisting on frosty mornings. not such a fan of the model that followed and the models after that looked great but had grown a bit too much for me to return back to.

That is a common problem with aircon people think its just for cooling in summer but as you know it also helps demist in winter (if you don't have a heated screen) the refrigerant has a lubricant in it to lube the seals in the system if its not run regularly they dry up and the refrigerant escapes also the pump and other components can seize up meaning as you found an expensive repair.

With pre-school twins I’m in the S-Max camp as well. Which, incidentally, is built on the Mondeo wheel base I believe.
Same here. We did have a 2.2 59 plate Mondeo, until we had our third child when 3 car seats wouldn’t fit across the back, hence the s-max (first car I’ve owned with a sub-woofer lol!)

I had two Mondeos - the first was in 1997 when I had my career "fifteen minutes of fame". It was a 2L Ghia X model - leather seats, CD Changer under the passenger seat, etc, etc. Fitted it with a tow bar for the touring caravan we had for 3 seasons when the girls were very young.

One of only two cars that ever gave me any sense of "car pride" - I even washed the damned thing after I bought it from the leasing company, once the said 15 minutes of fame came to an end. Lovely car - sold it for £50 in the end, to some other guy from the church we attended to get our girls into the "good" school.

No Mondeo but had a lovely 2.0 LX Sierra , I loved it. Great family car when the kids were young. This is the motor, photo from probably 1995.
