I believe this is technically illegal unless you have a distilling licence.

Since HMRC obtain a great deal of revenue from this source, I would drop the idea af actually making either. Sorry, but very big problem trying to explain the situation to the authorities after the event.

The closest you can get legally is doing a "wash" with super high ABV tolerant yeast. There is a bit on this on the forum and it seems fairly popular in the LHBS around here. So I would guess that you might get some fairly practical advice from that source as well. Not my cup of tea, as it were, but if you want to try it out, then why not.

for me personally I've found spirits are often available on offer at various supermarkets and the grief far out weighs the cost
