For those of us old enough to remember the golden jubilee, ….,
Some of us can remember the Coronation on 2nd June 1953; a day remembered with plenty of negative feelings!

I have a feeling his life of luxury isn't as luxurious as it used to be ;)
Oh dear! What a shame! Never mind!

Especially as he should be spending the rest of his life in jail!

Does anyone know why we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign on the 2nd of June THIS year?

As far as I am aware, this date is not the 75th anniversary of anything significant that happened in the UK!

George VI, died on 7th February 1952 and Princess Elizabeth was pronounced Queen by the Accession Committee on 8th February 1952.

The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth was on 2nd June 1953!

So why are we celebrating:
  1. 112 Days AFTER the 75th anniversary of when she was declared Queen Elizabeth II? OR
  2. One year BEFORE the 75th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II?
I am genuinely confused!
aheadbutt
(Platinum is 70 years not 75 !)
If you're going to quote dates then at least get that right !!
😂

The only time I would celebrate is when they have all disappeared and that won't happen.
Oh, I think it's on the cards. Charlie isn't well liked and is on a different planet anyway, and Bill hasn't got two brain cells to rub together. mind you, he has got teeth!. No I think we can look forward to seeing the demise of that sorry clan within our lifetimes. In fact I'm going to start brewing the ale for just that very occasion.

What have the royals ever done for us?

Supporters of the royal family - of which there are many in Berkshire - always have a firm answer to this question. They argue that the royal family brings in money to Britain more than it takes out, despite all of those pretty palaces.

In the year 2019/20, for instance, Britain's royal residences had more visitors than ever before.

A record number of 3,285,000 people visited the official royal residences, in the year before coronavirus struck.

They include Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace (including the Royal Mews and The Queen's Gallery), Clarence House, Frogmore House, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and The Queen's Gallery within.

As well as generating income from ticket sales, the palaces rack up cash from selling trinkets, hampers (their Christmas gift hamper made £32,000) and publishing.

There may still be some debate about where this money ends up, who should control it and what good it does for ordinary people. But there is no doubt the royal brand is very lucrative for the UK.

Here's a look at some of the ways that the royals generate money.

The Royal Collection

The Royal Collection Trust looks after the Royal Collection, one of the most important art collections in the world.

It also manages the public opening of the official residences of the Queen.

According to its annual report of 2019/20, a record 3,285,000 people visited the official residences in 2019/20 - the highest number ever, generating £49,859,000.

Windsor Castle welcomed some 1,586,994 visitors.

From a retail perspective, think gift shop sales, the Royal Collection made £19,983,646 in a year.

In total, the Royal Collection Trust’s total income for the year was £71,526,000.

The Crown Estate

In 2018/19, the revenue from The Crown Estate came in at £343.5 million.

The Crown Estate may not be what you think.

It doesn't include Windsor Castle - that's managed through the Royal Household - but it does include tons of other properties, including the entirety of Regent Street in London, Windsor Great Park and Ascot Racecourse.

The Crown Estate also controls around 1,960,000 acres of agricultural land and forest and more than half of Britain's foreshore.

Yep. All of the above is another aspect of what's utterly wrong. All that stuff should be in the hands of the State- ie the people, Not inherited by the members of a single family. The sooner Britain drags itself out of mediaeval serfdom and into the 20th (even the 19th) century, the better.

Are you saying that when I die that all that I have worked for should go to the state and not inherited by who I chose ?

Why celebrate full stop?
It's all about Bread and Circuses (Juvenal 2C AD and while it always has been thus it is no more relevant and fortuitous than today.
Here's an explanation from Wikipedia for those who are not up to date with this gambit:

Bread and circuses

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about a concept in political satire. For other uses, see Bread and Circuses (disambiguation).
"Bread and circuses" (or bread and games; from Latin: panem et circenses) is a metonymic phrase referring to superficial appeasement. It is attributed to Juvenal, a Roman poet active in the late first and early second century CE, and is used commonly in cultural, particularly political, contexts.
In a political context, the phrase means to generate public approval, not by excellence in public service or public policy, but by diversion, distraction, or by satisfying the most immediate or base requirements of a populace,[1] by offering a palliative: for example food (bread) or entertainment (circuses).
Juvenal, who coined the phrase, used it to decry the "selfishness" of common people and their neglect of wider concerns.[2][3][4] The phrase implies a population's erosion or ignorance of civic duty as a priority.[5]

They sit idle while a Buffon ruins the country. It's her government and she does nothing even when she's lied to. They are so divorced from people but pretend to understand what's happening. Tourists come to see the history not the queen so we can keep the buildings just disband the family

Could you exhume Robespierre for us please?

I couldn't care less how much money they bring in. I couldn't ever imagine supporting an institution where the basic premise is that "we're better than you because of who we are".

The French haven't exactly struggled for tourists without their parasites.

Keep burning fossil fuels and tourists will come for the weather 😂
