After my local Range store ran out of rose wine i decided to give the Wilkinsons Rose wine kit a try. I can find a review on all other Wilko wine kits but not the rose?

Anyway, i followed the instructions to the letter, leaving to ferment and clear a few days longer than suggested, When racking i was surprised the wine was still cloudy, my range kit is usually clear after 4 days. This kit seems to have a much better colour to it than the range kit, but what surprised me most was the taste. Its a very sweet tasting wine which we dont mind, but it dont seem to have the kick that the range kit has. The range wine blows your socks off after 1 glass!!

Now the only thing i didn't do same as the range kit, was to add extra sugar just after fermentation, im sure this step is just to sweeten the wine and not give it extra alcohol content?

Has anyone had a similar experience with this kit?
Im leaving to clear for a few more days, then thinking of adding campden tablets to help it clear, is this advisable?

    Thanks in advance.

I make the Range store wine regularly and our store has now run out as they are running stocks down prior to a re-brand, they will appear again shortly.

Campden tablets will not clear the wine get some wine finings, kwik clear or youngs clear it are the fastest working and in my option the best.

Made this a long while back (one of my first kits) and like the white it was OK but nothing to write home about.
For the difference in price (£3.50 ish/kg) and the finished product buy frozen berries and make your own wine.

If you have already degassed you don't need to do it again if you haven't degas before adding the finings.

    Which finings is it?

Some finings are in powder form some are a single sachet of liquid the best i have used (as mentioned earlier) are the two part ones like KwiK Clear or Youngs clear it.

If you haven't got one go to the chemist and get a small syringe (small enough to go through the hole in the neck of the bottle) as measuring 2 ml without one isn't easy.

    Buy the standard set of teaspoons spoons 1tsp ; 1/2 tsp ; 1/4 tsp . Then 0.168936tsp = 1ml . OR 2ml=0.336 ie one third tsp .OR more conveniently 3ml = 0,504 tsp :D:D

usually ask somebody who has a small child they tend to give these type of syringes out with medicine so you can squirt a dose into a small childs mouth easier than using a teaspoon
