Wine smells of rotten eggs

Hi All,

Just opened a bottle of white kenridge Pinot Grigio that’s been sitting for 3 months now and it stank of rotten eggs and had something floating in the liquid. I’ve looked at some of the other bottles and another 3 have got something floating inside. What did I do wrong? Did I not clean the bottles properly or is this something else??

Without knowing your cleaning/sterilising regime its impossible to say could you tell us your method.

So I rinsed them out with water then rinsed them out with sodium metabisulphate. Left them for 10 mins then rinsed them out with clean water again.

what did you use to sterilise all the rest of the gear before starting the kit it may have already been turning bad before you bottled it?

I may be wrong but don't think many members use sodium metabisulphate for sterilising bottles, i had to go back to 2015 to find a thread about it - https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/using-sodium-metabisulphite-for-sterilisation.51890/

I use thin bleach then sulphite.Never had a problem in 30 yrs. Btw, I dont use campden after fermentation/bottling as I am sensitive to sulphite.Er should add my wines are 15%-16% abv.
