6 weeks ago temporary traffic lights, excavators and various bits of civil engineering equipment appeared on the main road in our estate. 3 weeks after that we got a lovely new 60 FT phone mast. 2 weeks ago, after some heavy rain, raw sewage started spouting out of manhole covers, one right in some poor soul's driveway. Now the traffic lights and the rest are back and the mast has gone.

It transpires that the outfit putting up the mast collapsed part of the sewer while they were doing the groundwork. They knew they'd done it but carried on regardless.....

I assume they will be giving one to each house and 6.3 kW should do the job.

RangeTECHNIC
Frequency (Hz)50 Hz
Max power (kW)6.30
Nominal voltage (V)230
Number of PhaseSingle phase
FuelPetrol
Tank (L)18

Just think of all the fuel they will be using ashock1 I just wonder if all those people that were thinking of 7kw heat pumps are still so keen or now re-visiting multifuel stoves? My bro in NE has been advised no power back till Wed at the earliest and it's snowing! His stove is blazing with a pot of stew on top. I spent yesterday chopping up my driftwood ready for the winter. We cooked scones last night in our MF oven stove. It's brilliant. The hardwood will be running our OOni pizza oven tonight:cool:

My mate in Northumberland went out and bought a generator the day after the power went out, its only 4kW but they have their house and next door on it just to power the boilers.

I used a 1kW inverter strung out from the car the last time the power went off here for a couple of days, managed to run the boiler and the freezer of it, the car runs for ages as a generator 😁

Have to make sure you have the main incomer to the house isolated however to protect the linesman.

That's a worry I bet not many know to isolate the main to keep workers safe.

Maybe available now,
But:
Have to wonder when all vehicles are electric, and all oil companies have pulled out of drilling exploratory wells due to shaming
and these recent kind of events become more common, and there is
No electric power due to the outage to charge your or anyone elses vehicles' batteries,
No fuel to provide for emergency service transport, generators, nor farming,
We can then all die with a nice warm feeling that at least we did it in a carbon neutral way.

The answer has to be a more holistic, balanced practical approach.
Being blinkered and only having regard to a a single 'goal and target-driven approach' is a recipe for the disaster of unintended consequences.
A good example was the government push for everyone to change to Deisel fuel as a 'good more efficient lower CO2 ' way to go.
Totally forgetting about NOx's and noxious, atmospheric carcinogenic, and the asthma inducing particulates they produce.

You can run these generators on bottled gas so even when we are all running EV's we will still be able to power them in an emergency also solar power can be stored in batteries like in the guys set up below.

That's why diesel vehicles now have to use AdBlue.

How AdBlue works?
How AdBlue works diagram

Vehicles with SCR technology have a separate tank filled with AdBlue. This is then injected into the exhaust pipe, in front of the SCR catalyst, downstream of the engine.
Heated in the exhaust, it decomposes into ammonia and CO₂. When the NOx from the engine exhaust reacts inside the catalyst with the ammonia, the harmful NOx molecules in the exhaust are converted to harmless nitrogen and water, which are released from the tail pipe as steam.

Thanks Chippy, that's just the sort of thing I was trying to say needs thinking about BEFORE the politicos implement their narrow, blinkered 'goal and target driven' policies. Hopefully to avoid the unfortunate unintended outcomes that they always seem to achieve.
To paraphrase,
"Implement in haste, regret at leisure".
I love this old seaside postcard motto

THINK AHEA-

Crippling a society by way of an abrupt change from fossil to non-fossil fuel isn't a strategy any large government would use. As crazy as governments can be, to my knowledge, nobody in power has said anything of the sort.
US politics-wise, a favorite strategy of the RW conservative is to take a quote out of context and make it a stand-alone statement of "fact" out of it and then say, "See? Look what those liberals are trying to do to the country!"
That underhanded strategy is so infantile and transparent, it's a wonder anybody is fooled by it.

This is where you sit if you drive a Lamborghini.

A mate of mine had a Morris marina back in the 80's..that too had a rather awkward seating arrangement as when it rained you got wet feet...he lifted up a bit of wood and you could see tarmac!
His Cortina wasn't much better...the smell of petrol was quite strong when going round corners!
The mk2 escort looked like it had the suspension lowered...

Except those who are of that mindset already, and it will only serve to reinforce their preconceived opinions.
Echo chamber media.
It's how Qanon conspiracy theories, Xenophobia and good old Salem 'witch trials' are perpetuated.
Something along these lines occurred at the White House about a year ago, no?

That part drove me craaaaaaaazy. I was saying on this site, somewhere, that I had to stop watching news but even more importantly was giving myself a cease and desist order/restraining order from interacting with FOX NEWS posters.

I wouldn't downplay it, even in jest, but it was heartbreaking. Sobering. Terrifying. Disgusting.
Eleven months ago to the day.

Some time ago, I saw an interesting demonstration using computer graphics which showed a near-complete separation between where RWers got their info from as opposed to everyone else.

Even me and my next-to-zero contacts with news found out about a school shooting not far, relatively, from where I live. The "You couldn't make it up" part is that there were multiple warnings and chances for the shooting to not have happened.
