Today I've been pulled by the hairdryer traffic plod for doing 57 on a long stretch of a 40 dual carriageway, been issued with a verbal NIP and told I may be let off due to my previous 40 odd year clean driving licence, or very likely a £100 fine and 3 penalty points, fingers crossed its the former but not holding my breath,my biggest fear is if I get the penalty points I'm obliged to notify my insurance I believe and that doesn't bear thinking about, anyone else on here had similar and what was the outcome for you if you did?

Did you know it was a 40 or did you think it was a 60? I ask as I got done for doing 49 in a 40, I must have overtaken someone and missed the 40 sign, why elsexwould I be doing 49, I didn't bother to argue and took the sixty pound fine and three points.

As a long time LGV driver I feel your pain dude
Iv had several run ins and may even have one pending - those camera vans now have a port hole at the FRONT in case you didn't know.
I wouldn't worry too much about a paltry 3 points lol it MAY make no difference, apparently there are so many drivers with endorsements it's not seen as the big felony it used to be.

P.s
You were lucky!! 20mph over and it's a shirt and tie job Mr Godsdog

Well I travel down it frequently and I assumed its a 40 but on others near it some are 50.bloody thing is I didn't see him point the gun in the distance, when did you get a £60 he told me it was £100

I got 3 points for speeding (90ish on the M6) back in 1989 and was worried about my insurance but they were fairly relaxed and said 3 points wouldn't make much impact (esp if less than 20mh above limit). Its things like dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention that really get you stung. Hopefully they will let you off or give you the option of one of these courses instead. Unusual they didn't say whether they would prosecute you on the spot...normally they do ...so fingers crossed you'll be OK.

They were speeding Coppers on foot with the gun,I said to him I didn't see any warning signs at the beginning of the DC and he said as they are not the speeding van they don't have to

Among the little book of catchphrases our boys in blue study are ....

Ignorance is not an excuse.

And an old favourite that rings in my ears

It's a target not a limit.

Oooops think I'm still getting that back to front :electric: lol

Only offence in over 40 years I've been done for was parking in my side street at night facing the wrong way over 30 years back and got a £6 fine, bloody disgrace imo

best thing is not to worry about it.... it'll soon be 5 o'clock...maybe open a beer??
Worried??????? That bloody £100 was my next brewing investment !!!!! And the bugger said it could take up to 6 months for the COP to decide as to whether they issue a fine, marvellous in today's computer digital age, things were much quicker when everything was analogue and hand written

Ok..I take back my 'worried' comment..but I still think my suggestion to have a beer is a good move.
I only drink On a day with a Y in it other than a bank holiday I never touch it until around 10.30pm
In the evening as I know I will drink too much otherwise so if its close to bedtime it keeps the numbers down

Edit to my above post -

Did you know it was a 40 or did you think it was a 60? I ask as I got done for doing 49 in a 40 (it was a 50 mph road as i did see the 50 signs) , I must have overtaken someone and missed the 40 sign, why else would I be doing 49, I didn't bother to argue and took the £60 pound fine and three points.

It was a long time ago, cars didn't do 60 then.

This may sound harsh as we all speed at one time or another but if you were doing 57 on a road you travel down frequently and you assumed to be a 40 limit you really haven't much to complain about.

Also i would like to point out a lot of insurance companies now ask if you have done a drivers awareness course! penalty points mean next to nothing now no getting away with it! Moral of the story is slow down i guess:-o

I agree with Steve. If you're done for speeding then you haven't been victimised or "caught out", you've been driving over the speed limit, there are no excuses. Speed cameras aren't there to catch you out, they are positioned in accident black spots to make people slow down.

Never heard of being let off for having a clean record. The officer would have had discretion and let you have put seeing you have had a nip expect points, unless the officer forgets to put the paperwork in on time

Dude, I wouldn't worry.

I got done for doing 43 in a 30, I genuinely thought I was in a 40 as I'd never driven on that road before.
I got done for 3 points and £100.
My first ever traffic offence in 23 years of driving, I was gutted.
I informed my insurance company at renewal time, they ran a quick competitor check and found a specialty insurance for drivers with points. I got £110 off my premium!

admittedly it shows I was with a **** insurance company beforehand but it's still cheaper.

Thanks to Dyfed-Powys police!

Motorcyclist gets stopped on a stretch of road notorious for speeding. He was clocked doing nearly 130mph. Traffic Officer says to him 'I've been waiting for someone like you to come along'. Biker replies 'well I got here as soon as I could....'
