Mine has to be cleaning the propane soot off my big pot. It's filthy dirty stuff, goes everywhere, stains everything, the whole process takes ages and generally reinforces my family's perception that brewing is unpleasant.

Which bit do you hate most and why?

Why do you get smuts/soot ? Shouldn't happen if your burner is set right, I never get any soot deposits with my propane burner !

Tight as cramp me fella. Especially if it's something I like.

Ayesha said to me that I should put a few bottles of each to one side for her dad. As much as I like me father in law, I was reluctant to agree to it.

My father in law hates bitter beer so that rules out 90% of what I make, which Is handy. My dad's only slightly more tolerant, but will happily take most things I make. They both loved the patersbier which I thought was rather bland.

I have a love hate relationship with giving beer away. Part of me loves sharing, part of me loves showing off. But a sizeable part of me hates giving away my stash.

Waiting for the beers to condition. Waiting for anything sucks major donkey balls...

I know what you mean. I want people to try it, so I can be all smug and that, but I keep thinking about my stash dwindling. I suppose I'll just have to make some more... :thumb:

Start putting your beer in mini kegs. No one would want or expect you to give them 5ltr of homebrew (probably).

I am tempted but the need for a tap (it takes me a while to get through 5L of one beer as I vary what I drink), or better several taps puts me off. It's a pricey solution then.

Tbh giving away beer is not really a problem and I'm happy enough bottling and pb'ing

I've got a couple of mks, but firstly, I'm worried about bollocksing it up and ending up with 5l of flat, oxidised beer. Secondly, I'd probably only do mks of a beer I'm making for a specific event. Like making a session beer for a barbecue or party or summat like that.

Yeah, that's the drawback of them - 5ltr of the same beer. Although I find that it's ok as one lasts me a couple of weekends, so that's only really up to 4 pints at once.

You won't cock it up, it's easier than bottling (and beer tastes better out of them). They're great for bbq etc as you say and look far cooler than bottles or cans!

1) Threads too long to read fully

2) Getting wort from the kettle to the FV. I dunno why, I suspect paranoia about infections, but I always spill it at this point, or a hose comes off, or I drop the whisk whilst aerateing, or the FV tap leaks.

Bottling I don't seem to have a problem with.
  1. The FV goes on the worktop, 44 bottles, rinsed and sanitized with starsan, on the floor (arranged in 4x rows of 12 with enough room between them to get a capper on top).
  2. A cup of hot sugary water goes into the FV.
  3. Sanitise the Easy-syphon and wand by giving it a pump in the bottle rinser. Chuck caps into bottle rinser.
  4. give the FV it a quick swirl and start syphoning, start in the far corner so the hose isn't knocking bottles over.
  5. Add caps to bottles as I go
  6. Go along the lines with the capper
  7. Put bottles in shed/kegerator, mop up spillage and retire to sofa to drink the last half bottle.

Ayesha was my original take on SWMBO as well. There was a film with a blue flame. Once in good. Twice in bad. Wait for the perfect partner for almost eternity. She turns up. Opens her silly mouth, illusion dissipates and the long wait is back on.

I've got 8 now. There also great for (pseudo) lagering as I can put them in my domestic fridge. 1 keg holds the same amount as about 15 of my 330ml bottles but I dont think Mrs MQ would be too happy if I put 15 bottles in the fridge for a month but doesnt mind if I put a mini keg in there

Is there a decent place online to get them at a reasonable price ?

Used to be an ebay bloke who did about 5 for 30 quid but can't find him anymore
