Methods not widely used by homebrewers

This has got me thinking. :wha: I'm an all grain brewer and have never tried FWH. I normally do these hop additions 90 Mins - High Alpha 15 Mins - Aroma 0 Mins - More Aroma hops for steeping as wort cools. If I go FWH method, do I move...

    Sani Clean PH Quandary

Well, I bought some Star San and some PH papers. It turns out that my tap water is actually PH8!! The website for my local water supplier said PH6.5  I decided to use Ashbek water from Tesco with a PH of 4 (ish) and the resultant Star San solution has a PH 2-3. Interestingly, the...

Top Tip - Leaky Corny post

I suspected I had a leaky Cornie post the other day. It seemed 'intermittent'. Quick solution - Stick a balloon over it!! Low and behold - two days later, I had an erect balloon on my Corny!! Worked a treat!

    Sani Clean PH Quandary

Apparently you can add acid to the water. I wonder if lemon juice would do it? Lemony fresh :D I use Oxy too. I have always used dilute bleach to good effect but after hearing horror stories about Stainless steel and bleach my Cornies wont be seeing any of it. I was going to try Videne but...

    Help! - Butterscotch Flavour

Starting gravity was around 1048 if I remember correctly. I checked the FG two consecutive days and it was steady. My main concern is if I can do anything to alleviate it ? I read a good article that describes taking some wort from the FV and warming it to 75C in a covered container then taste...

    Help! - Butterscotch Flavour

I always ferment at 20C. I have a temp controller and it keeps within 0.5C of this. I always use Safale S04 and this is my 14th all grain brew with no probs so far. What has changed is that I have never used finings in the FV before, always racked to a King Keg. This is the first time I have...

    Help! - Butterscotch Flavour

Hello, I thought I had posted this but cannot find it. So, here goes again..... I have put an AG brew into a Cornie. It has a Butterscotch taste and smell that I have read is down to Diacetyl. Usually from Kegging up the beer too soon. I fermented for seven days (FG 1011), added...

    Sani Clean PH Quandary

Hi Folks, I've been thinking about using some Sani Clean or Star San and have been told that your water needs to be PH 3 or lower! I've heard that Water Authorities keep PH to around 6.5-7.5 to avoid pipes rotting. I've checked and my water is PH 6.5. Can I use Sani Clean? :hmm: And...

    Pressure barrel dilemma

You've got two options. Either change lids straight away and inject with C02 or wait until you have used the priming C02 and change the lid as pressure dies down. Either way, after re-pressurising, just ease the lid to vent off any oxygen in the keg and you should be good to go!

    Keeping Things Cool

I was thinking of getting a couple of JG <Python Line Size> to 3/8 straight coupler or elbow. I just don't know what the size of the Python lines is :wha:

    Frozen Beer Lines

Thanks chaps. New to this Cornie setup so I didn't want to do something silly and damage my new kit! :nono:

    Frozen Beer Lines

With the UK weather taking a turn for the cooler, I was wondering how people using Cornies counter act the effects of the freezing weather. :hmm: If you have beer in the line between Cornie and tap, is there a risk of freezing and if so would it damage the Disconnects, pipe, tap etc? Or is...

    Keeping Things Cool

Nice!! I've already got a TC-1000 and a brewbelt that works brilliantly for keeping it warm (+- 0.5C) so it's just a case of the cooling. That looks like a good solution. Just out of interest, do you know what JG fitting I would need to put on the metal part of the python line outputs on the...
