Today, I had a look and a sniff in each one. They both looked grubby with stains and smelt of beer. I'll shall take the taps and lids off when I get to cleaning them. Going out on Monday to get some Oxiclean or the equivalent and see if I can find some odorless bleach. I'll let you all know how...

Thanks for the replies. Never heard of OXI Clean, so I googled it. http://www.oxiclean.com/ Found their main web site ... So Which one should I get and can I get from the Local Regular Supermarket? {Edit} I'm finding it hard to find in the UK. :-(

What's the best way to clean the insides out on these. I don't know when they last had any fluids in them, so I don't want to make myself ill. I'd like to use them for water when camping.
