I'm going to try a Coopers Stout soon as well and I see that a lot of people put treacle in it as well as the Coopers brew enhancer. Are you doing it straight or are you using any addtions.
I've just bought this kit and only looked what it contains. There doesn't seem to be too much priming sugar. Does the porter end up well carbonated with the sugar provided?
Sounds good! Mine looks like it's coming to the end of fermentation but I'll wait until Friday to check a sample with a view to bottling over the weekend.
Trying to decide if I'm doing a Coopers stout, a Youngs porter or Youngs New World Saison next.
Mick I would be careful of putting it up too high because you'll just be heating the top of the FV at that level.
Try the timer switch thing and see if it helps
To update this thread the "bitter" taste was in fact a sour taste. I think that with the coopers FV and my lack of patience I've let too much air in and I spoiled the brew. School boy error.

Quick update on this.
Opened a bottle today and carbonation much better. Still doesn't taste amazing so it's in the garage for a few months.
I'm going to do a Coopers Heritage Lager next. Any advice on hopping or if to use the Coopers malt or some other malt?
