Matchless Homebrew Launch New Online Shop

Thanks guys for all the great feedback - glad you're all honest and while positive feedback is great to receive, the negative feedback is what helps to move things forward so it's all appreciated. I'll pass on the comments to Anne & Ian at Matchless - they are trying to be competitive with...

    Woolly Jumper 08/03/09

I'm mid chilling - having to bodge together some sanitiser for the fermenter cos I've run out of Iodophor :? I've got some star san which I've never used as it always goes cloudy with my tap water due to the hardness/alkalinity. So I've had to treat my tap water with CRS to reduce the...

    Brewing Lethargy

Clearly it just takes a day 'working from home' to muster up some energy to fix my boiler. It's now fitted with a shiny ball valve and ready for action :D

    Brewing Lethargy

I've not brewed since the beginning of January. In fact I still have an IPA in secondary sat in the cupboard since then. I seem to be lacking motivation to: Bottle the IPA[/*:m:1umak975] Set up my kegerator with the beers I already have in cornies[/*:m:1umak975] Brew anything[/*:m:1umak975]...

    Hot break question

A common misconception is that the foam that forms when the wort is about to boil is the hot break. I forget what the foam actually is - I've always stirred it back in. A good hot break occurs at around 60 to 90 minutes into the boil. As to whether removing the foam or not is good for the...

    Chocolate in beer?

The Reinheitsgebot was invented for the very occasion when someone thought chocolate and beer was a good combination ;)

    Brown Bottles advice sought

For tough adhesive residue, use lighter fluid. Squirt it on, leave for a few seconds and any glue will come off easily using some kitchen paper. Do it in a well ventilated area though :)

    Busy day with a blowtorch!

I attempted some copper soldering yesterday. Suffice to say it was up to my usual standard of DIY :( I was using a cook's blowtorch and I don't think it got the copper hot enough because the solder wouldn't melt on contact so I ended up torching the solder directly, which then wouldn't seep...

    Ancient Orange and Spice Mead

I've made mead once. I would make it again, but all that honey gives you one hell of a hangover if you have a few glasses of it  I used orange blossom honey which gave the mead a nice twang. I still have a bottle which I'm leaving longer - it did ferment a little too dry though so I...
