WOW! - Shipyard American Pale Ale

Thanks for the feedback guys - never did get a recipe. Also never got round to giving it a go either, being fairly new to partials etc. I'd have no idea where to start with the hops etc. I too have started to see it in my local Spoony's - the Devils Backbone IPA they seem to have all the time...

WOW! - Shipyard American Pale Ale

Over the weekend I had a pint of a beer I had all but forgotten about – Shipyard American Pale Ale. I had forgotten how great it was. A lovely, light, creamy pint bursting with fruity/citrus zestyness! I need more of this in my life, and want to attempt to clone it. My google-fu...

    Bottles: Glass or PET?

I second Cwrw666 on this - glass is a better long term solution. I used the coopers pet bottles for quite a while when I started and I had very few issues with them. They held my beer fine and I had no oxidation issues that I can remember - they were fine. However they just don't last...

    Bottling

Mish - I've bottled for years and never thought of this! :thumb: Other time saving items for bottling is a bottle tree/drainer and contact steriliser (I use star san). I can sterrilise, bottle and clean away in just over an hour - well worth the extra investment.

Bucket is Airtight but No Bubbles after 6days!

Yep sounds fine to me too. I second leaving it another week as well, it does make the difference. If there is one thing I have noticed about the Wherry kits - they do need their time, especially in secondary/bottle/keg. But if left alone make a cracking pint!

    Brewing Virgin; Advice on equipment

If you are going down the bottling route I would agree that a bottle tree (with squirty thing on top), bottling bucket & contact sanitiser (star san) are excellent investments. I spent years soaking & rinsing my bottles with the bleaches/powders. I finally invested in the above and cut my...

    Kegging/Corny Keg no fridge??

Many thanks for the replies guys – I would have never thought to knock up a little chamber but if it can cool down as much as you say then I’m going to go down that road I think – thanks! Airymary – your setup is something that I’d like to get to someday… only have about 10 years...

    Kegging/Corny Keg no fridge??

My eyes have recently been catching sight of those lovely shiny kegs that whisper delights to me about leaving my bottling woes behind (or at least cutting it down!). I've only ever bottled since I started brewing and love the idea of being able to cut out some of my bottling time. Let's face...

    Fridge question

You wont regret having a fermentation chamber! Being able to control the temps of my brews was one of the best things I ever did in terms of my setup. Largers, cold conditioning, varying temps to adjust flavour... all possible. I've had my temp fridge for a little over 3 years and its never...

    BrewPi, stc1000 or fermostat

Also using an STC-1000 here too. Absolutely love it. Have to kicking a fridge in when needed like a lot of people. Honestly can't imagine fermenting without one now. Used it nearly constantly for about 2.5 years now with zero issues. If it broke I would not hesitate to buy a new one straight away.

Upping my game - new kit needed...?

Thank for the advice both, helped me a lot. I think as an immediate "fix” I'm going to grab a larger pot so I can split the wort and boil on my hob. I've seen this on Amazon...

Pressure barrels: King Keg vs Standard

This post caught my eye. I've bottled exclusively since I started brewing a few years ago. I love love love the idea of being able to chuck some of my brews in a keg and not take the time to bottle as often. Are the kegs generally recommended by users of them? Are they worth the cost and...

Upping my game - new kit needed...?

Thanks for the advice very useful. I think I am getting myself a little confused how much smaller of a pot/kettle would I get away with if I went down the mash tun route? I know from reading that full BIAB often recommend 12+ gallon pots! I'm fairly confident I could extract a good amount...

Upping my game - new kit needed...?

I'm a long time viewer of the forum and have finally come to a point with my brewing setup where I need to seek the advice of fellow brewers and more experienced brew lovers. Over the last year I've moved from brewing mostly kit brews to partial-mashing, specifically BIAB method. I have been...

    wherry how fast

I think this is where I have gone wrong with this kit. I am just not patient enough :nono: Although green beer can be nasty, I find it can often be nicer than a lot of store-bought swill!!
