    How many kegs

I've got 4 Cornies and an undercounter fridge that just about fits two in. I've never managed to have all four filled at once, due to poor planning though. I also still haven't got around to putting holes in the side of the fridge for the beer lines yet... ( I bought them when they were...

    No head

How much priming sugar did you add to the bottles when bottling? Does it taste sweet ( like there's unfermented sugar ) ? Most likely you haven't left it long enough in a warm place yet. It looks fine - it'll clear over time.

My first malt extract brew - hop boiling question

I've got a pair of those wilko pots and they've served me well. They both just about fit on my standard 4 hob cooker, so I can split a boil.

    TCP taste

I can't smell chlorine in the water, but my sense of smell is terrible. My local HBS says the chlorine/chloramine levels are high at the moment and I take his word for it.

    TCP taste

Apparently our tap water is heavy in chloramine at the moment, which apparently can't be removed by boiling. I use sodium metabisulphate to clean, but I do make an effort to rinse properly. I do have some no-rinse stuff ( sodium percabonate ) that I could use instead, I suppose ( I like the...

    TCP taste

I didn't measure, I went with my gut. I'll be more careful from now on, if that is a potential side-effect. I always assumed that 2l of boiling water and 21 litres of cold water would work out about right. I've also heard that pitching sooner is more important than perfect temperature to...

    TCP taste

Hi, I've had problems with chloramine in my local water supply causing my beer to taste like TCP so I switched to bottled water. My last batch was from a kit, so out of habit, I used 2 litres of tap water in the kettle to get the extract out of the tin. It was too late before I realised my...

    Bottling without priming

Do you cool your beer down before bottling? Just a thought, but colder beer can hold more Co2 in suspension. It could be that if its cold enough, adding more co2 ( then warming for priming ) increases the Co2 in suspension too much.

    Sparkling wine kit

Hi, I make a lot of beer ( mainly kits, occasionally AG ) and red wine kits ( Beaverdale Barollo), but SWMBO has asked me to see about making a sparkling white. Are there any kits for this, I know nothing about white wine - would any white taste good with bubbles? I'd ideally like to do...

    Fermenting under pressure

Thanks, after work I'll put it somewhere safe and attach the gas-in post after removing the regulator.

    Fermenting under pressure

Hi, I mistakenly put a batch of beer into a cornie too early, so it still tastes sweet. Will the fermentation still take place under pressure ( ~10psi ) ? And if so, will the yeast be stressed causing off flavours? I've left it in a warm place since I found out and I think it's...

    What size co2 bottle?

I got mine on ebay. Apparently you need to make sure that it's a pressure regulator, not a flow regulator, but I didn't come across any flow regulators.

    Cleaning beer lines

Thanks for the link. My problem with that system is I can only clean the lines when I have an empty cornie, and I try my best to prevent that from happening. If I don't drink beer for a couple of weeks for whatever reason, I'd like to be able to give the lines a quick clean before use, which...

    Cleaning beer lines

Hi, I've got a cornie attached to a tap, but need a way of cleaning the lines. Does anybody know of any hardware I can buy to pump the cleaning solution through the lines and the tap? My current solution is to fill the cornie with cleaner, pressurise and serve, then again with water, which...

    Expectations / Reality

That is a spectacularly nice beer, if it's the one I'm thinking of. It puts cheap kits into context of how cheap they really are.
