Just done another tester on this (been on 9 days) and its tasting like cider, and relatively strong. Its bubbling about every 20 seconds. Is it the right time to move it over to the 2nd DJ and topup with more AJ? After that, bottling should be done within a week?

I never actually thought of that Roddy! May have some this weekend then with my "free" beer!

Well i was going to do them 50/50 really. Would there be an issue with making them fizzy?

Starting to do things now. Theres a bubble in the airlock every 5 or so seconds. So how far apart should they start to be before i take another tester and transfer into the 2nd DJ?

Just thrown in the hydrometer, the reading is showing below the blue marker at 1.10 The blue marker says 'wine start' , then beer/lager start in the 2nd section. Had a little taste and just tastes like very sweet apple juice. Is that right? Id have thought by now that the hydrometer would...

When is the stuff in the sample tube ok to sample? I'm going to take a tester tonight to measure with the Hydrometer to get a rough idea as to where things are upto. I probably wouldnt pour it back in though, just straight down the plug whether i tried it or not.

Popping into town soon to pick up a hydrometer, tester tube and thermometer. Is there anything else that I'll need to get? When transferring to the 2nd DJ, i'm assuming this is done when the hydrometer is at around .995?? Also, with the transferring, do i need to add anything into the 2nd DJ...

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'll just leave it now until it at 6 days. So monday I'll transfer it to the 2nd DJ. Apologies for all the questions, probably coming across as a right numpty for something that seem so simple!

So even though its being tediously slow, the build up on the top is showing me that something is happening? Also, the colour is still very dark. Is this normal too or will it clear up before i move it to a 2nd DJ? One last thing, is there anything i can do to help speed it up? Does the air...

So just home from work and had a little check on this. Alls i can really say is that theres a layer of smeg, about 1cm tall ontop of the AJ. No bubbles seem to be present and the missus says she hasn't noticed any either. Id upload a pic of what ive seen from the start but i cant seem to figure...

Another question on this one - What is the shelf life for home brews? I'd assume Cider would have a few months after bottling? But wine, is it months/years?
