Leaving the beer on the trub (the sediment at the bottom of the fermentor) can cause soapy flavors as the yeast may start to consume the trub. I've never experienced this problem and I don't think just because the beer is left for 3 weeks on the trub that this is always the result.
Have a look...
I'd also be interested to hear from others that use finings as I'm thinking about giving them a go :wha:
How much did you batch prime with?

Victory adds a biscuit flavour and also a nuttines. It's really nice!
Not listened to any of these podcasts, so thanks Dr Mike for the pointer. :thumb: Just searched and found it so will have a listen!
How did it turn out Moby?

Sounds like a great bit of advice, this one is now on the 'to do' list!
If you get round to doing this one soon Barry, let us know how it turns out :thumb:

Not that technical really and I like trying to find out what malt does what and how the hops will affect things! Although I always feel a bit on edge until I've tasted the beer, there's always a little voice in the back of your head saying "it might not taste too good"!
Do you get an ingrediant...
Going to get my 2nd AG on this weekend. Used a recipe i made for an extract brew a while ago trying to imitate a Fullers ESB and tweaked it a bit for this attempt, any comments or tips would be much appreciated :thumb:

As the process is a fairly lengthy one (seems to take me about 6 hours ish) Any gravity readings I want, I take about 100ml and let it cool down before using the hydrometer. Obviously it's too late to alter anything if the gravity reading isn't what I expected, but at the moment I'm just using...
I second this. Just looked at my last brew and end of boil efficiency was 88%, efficiency into fermentor was 81.9%.
Try using the BIABacus at the biabrewer website for your next brew.

Sorry Mikey I misread your first post and somehow my eyes didn't acknowledge that you had written 'Coopers Irish Stout". So my suggestion of adding hops was not really called for! Once you've got a few brews done and dusted you can start tinkering if you feel the need!
