Going to get my 2nd AG on this weekend. Used a recipe i made for an extract brew a while ago trying to imitate a Fullers ESB and tweaked it a bit for this attempt, any comments or tips would be much appreciated :thumb:

You are far too technical for me, I just do the ESB all grain kit from Worcester Hop Shop, it's one of my favourite beers

You are far too technical for me
Not that technical really and I like trying to find out what malt does what and how the hops will affect things! Although I always feel a bit on edge until I've tasted the beer, there's always a little voice in the back of your head saying "it might not taste too good"!

Do you get an ingrediant list with the kit, I'd be interested to know whats in it? How does it compare to a Fullers or hobgoblin?

I made a Fullers ESB from a Beerworks all grain kit 2 weeks ago, ingredients as follows.

5060g Maris Otter
500g Crystal Malt
15g Target Hops
8g Challenger Hops
8g Northdown Hops
11g East Kent Goldings

Dry Ale Yeast

I must admit I did chuck a handfull of citra hops in at tend of the boil which I had in my freezer for good measure so I cant vouch for how authentic it taste.

Looks like a good recipe (although I don't know what Victory malt does)

If you want an exact clone, have you listened to The Brewing Network podcast about Fullers ESB ? They go into quite alot of detail.

Off the top of my head it's OG 1060, grist 95% Pale, 5% Crystal. Only 35 IBUs. The late addition is only 2mins from end of boil. Mash temp is a little lower (65?) as Fullers yeast is a low attenuator anyway.

(although I don't know what Victory malt does)
Victory adds a biscuit flavour and also a nuttines. It's really nice!

Not listened to any of these podcasts, so thanks Dr Mike for the pointer. :thumb: Just searched and found it so will have a listen!

How did it turn out Moby?

It's still conditioning at the moment but I have had a couple of tasters. Its quite full bodied but a bit sweeter than the batch I made about a year ago. It turned out a bit stronger than I wanted it ended up 5.9% and should have been 5.4%. I couldn't resist putting the citra in so it is not possible to compare it to my first brew. From what I can remember about the first batch it was pretty good but not as close to the real thing as I hoped.
