You can also get solid Bungs fairly cheaply... They make the djs much easier to store in my shelving unit! Obviously you need to be confident it's finished fermenting though!
That's great!
I've got approx 7l in my batch, it's pure grape and I put in around 900g dextrose.
I'm using a spare d47 yeast so it's a low and slow fermentation... I reckon I'll rack it in the new year.
Lets keep in touch in this thread and compare our outcomes
Very exciting!
I was gifted 10/12kg of grapes this summer, and spent a full day sorting, cleaning and juicing. I'll definitely freeze and thaw them next time.
Mine is still bubbling away, and I think I'm going to rack it after a month or so, and then leave it to sit until late next summer.
I...
Did you get the bottling wand that fits directly to the tap... I thought that was a great idea... I've been using a long tube for ten years!
I'm glad it turned out well... 1x gal is a good volume for me... The more there is the quicker I drink :/
I totally agree with the idea they're aiming this as a gift. Some of the usual websites aren't too easy to navigate, and don't have that polished look that you might want if you're giving a gift.
I've put the stout on my Xmas list, so maybe I'll be trying one out soon all the same ⊙.☉
I've found this website selling 5l recipe kits, clearly aimed at the BIAB beginners market:
https://bottletopped.co.uk/
The kits are a bit pricey, but look quite tasty...
Have any of you tried them out?
I fill up my 5gal fv with hot soapy water and leave them to stand until I remember, then use a metal scourer to get rid of anything left over... As someone else mentioned above.
I did think recently, that you know when you're a homebrew (bottler) when you only buy outside beer when the label...
I didn't realise that there were different cap sizes until it was too late!
I had to order a capper, and caps for next day delivery, and leave a few bottles uncovered over night :/
I would just loosely lay a cap on the bottle neck, and check it fits. Though like what was said above it's only...
This is a really useful thread, thank you all.
I'm still fermenting in a cupboard and planning to upgrade to something controlled in the new year... It sounds like my old fridge will do the job!
