    Festival New Zealand pilsner.

Cheers - that's definitely an ale yeast.
  2. Yeastmaster

    Festival New Zealand pilsner.

Cheers - which temperature does it tell you to ferment at?

    Festival New Zealand pilsner.

Hi - does this kit come with a true lager yeast or is it an ale yeast. Did it smell of rotten eggs when fermenting?

    Youngs American Pale Ale (APA)

Have just cracked open my second bottle of this. In primary for 4-5 weeks due to holidays, then bottled and conditioned for about 6 weeks (which is quite short for me). Pungent hoppy aroma with nice malty sweetness. 10/10. One of the best kits I've done, maybe even the best. I've decided I'm...

    Youngs American IPA

I'm so pleased with this kit I ordered 3 more Young's kits over the weekend. They are streets ahead of the Muntons kits and actually very good value IMHO if you consider the quality. Plus in addition to instructions that actually make sense and a very generous helping of hop pellets they give...

    Youngs American IPA

Still have about 10 bottles left from my stash I started in February. Hop aroma ever so slightly less pronounced but still very very nice. Stash will be gone in less than 2 weeks. :-(

    Youngs American IPA

You need to bottle condition MINIMUM 6 weeks. It'll be great then.

    Youngs American IPA

Have just cracked open my first bottle of this - 3 weeks in primary, 7 weeks bottle conditioning. Best beer I've brewed so far. A bit like Brew dog Punk IPA or Devil's Backbone IPA but better. Well done, Young's!

    Youngs American IPA

I used a sanitised hop bag for dry hopping this brew and it was fine. Would do this again.

    Thomas Coopers Wheat Beer

I've done this kit with 1kg beer enhancer and it was fine.

    Youngs American IPA

Thanks for all your advice on when to drink everyone. Will cracking first bottle open after 2 months and start working my way through. How I love this hobby!

Best home brew related purchase you have made?

    Bottling wand. Nightmare without it.

    Muntons New Kits

Saw these online today - like Slid I can't believe they come with the typical Muntons 6g yeast! Given that you have to buy the yeast separately to avoid the stuck kit issue it's not as good a deal. Has anyone started the Muntons yeast petition mentioned on here a few months ago?

    Youngs American IPA

Bottled it this week and am planning to let it condition for my usual 10-12 weeks before touching it (have quite a bit of stock to see me through until then) Will this result in too much loss of hop flavour? Any views on this?

1st Beer Brew, looks like gravy!

Looks and sounds completely normal. Nothing to worry about.

    Youngs American IPA

Just bottled this tonight - tastes great already! 4 weeks in fermenter and took ages to ferment out. Fermentation took about 24 hours to start but then went mad with foam clogging up airlock 3-4 times! Lasted at least 2 weeks.

    First Brew Problems

There are loads of threads on here about stuck fermentations. Look at those too first for a second opinion before taking action. Let us know how you get on!

    First Brew Problems

Sounds to me like you've got a stuck fermentation. Move it somewhere slightly warmer and give a gentle stir. Some people on here also suggest adding 1.5tsp yeast nutrient.

    First brew! Woodforde's Wherry

MyQul I thought you'd be a good person to ask as I seem to remember you've got the yeast book. Are you planning to harvest during active fermentation or wash your yeast after bottling and store that in the fridge? Is there a liquid yeast that would go well with wherry?

    First brew! Woodforde's Wherry

The yeast isn't great. I think these are Muntons kits, which means the same inadequate yeast. If you can get away with just adding yeast nutrient then that could be a solution. I wish I had a local homebrew shop to experiment with yeast and hops; buying online always incurs an annoying...
